Jeanette C. “Jan” Crandall, 83, a lifelong resident of Eldred, PA
ALTOONA — Jeanette C. “Jan” Crandall, 83, a lifelong resident of Eldred, PA passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Maybrook Hills, Altoona, surrounded by her family.
Born on Oct. 4, 1939, she was the daughter of Harry and Helen Burg Batt. On Nov. 21, 1959, at St. Raphael’s Church, Eldred, she married Elwin E. Crandall, who preceded her in death on Aug.11, 2004.
Jeanette was a 1957 graduate of Otto Eldred High School. She was a member of St. Raphael’s Church in Eldred. She was a lifetime member at Eldred Township Fire Dept. Auxiliary serving her community since 1967. During her tenure she held secretary and treasurer offices on several occasions. She was also a member of the Tri County Fire Auxiliary. She had been a member of the Grange #53 of Eldred and the Eldred-Interstate React. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, both the Eldred and Smethport Senior Centers, and also volunteered for the Relay for Life.
Jeanette enjoyed her house plants as well as her flower and garden beds around the house, crafts, and camping in her Mini-Winnie, especially on the family farm with her husband. She also enjoyed reading and sharing Harlequin romance novels. Finally, she greatly enjoyed spending time with her many grandchildren.
Surviving is two sons, Christopher (Lana Parker) Crandall of Nebraska and Timothy (Suzy) Crandall of Duke Center; one daughter, Cheryl (Michael) Malloy of Johnstown; two brothers, Raymond (Kathy) Batt of Missouri and Richard (Rhonda) Batt of North Carolina; two sisters, Elizabeth Batt of Rochester, N.Y. and Shirley (Bruce) Moore of Florida., 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death is one infant son, Joseph Crandall in 1961; two brothers, Gary Batt and Kenneth Batt.
Friends may call on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 27, 2023 with Pastor Max Simms officiating. Burial will be in St. Raphael’s Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family for final expenses.
