Karen K. Gentz, Warren, PA
A beloved mother, grame and sister, Karen passed suddenly on April 13, 2023, at St. Vincent Hospital with family by her side.
Karen was more than just a mother or grame. She was a teacher, a supporter, a best friend and so much more. Everyone who ever met her loved her. She enjoyed crafting, specifically her diamond art that she won numerous prize ribbons for. She was an avid reader and loved James Patterson novels. Karen also enjoyed her computer games. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
A resident of Warren for over 40 years, a lab tech by trade, Karen made her mark on the community by working in the offices of several physicians and eye surgeons: managing local businesses such as Majik Mart and Video Update for several years. She even coached children’s bowling leagues in the 80s. Karen had also been very active in the local chapter of the Moose Lodge. The last 9 years she was a cherished resident at the Watson Memorial Home.
Karen is survived by her sons Joseph Covino III and his partner Ivan Teutli of Somerset, NJ, Christopher Covino and his girlfriend Molly Gallman of Fort Atkinson, WI; a daughter Karen “Kelli” Covino of Warren, PA; granddaughter, Alasya Luce-Brucker and husband Christopher Brucker, of Warren, PA.
Karen is also survived by her brother Dr. Edward (Ned) Gentz and wife Renee; two nephews Seamus and Graham Gentz all of Albuquerque NM and many cousins in Norristown region of PA.
She is preceded in death by her mother Kathryn (Kitty) McAnulty and her father Edward Francis Gentz, and her best friend Nancy Hussey.
Karen was a neighborhood mom. She was actively involved with her children’s lives and the lives of their friends. She proudly took on the moniker “mom’ by many kids whom she loved and who called her “mom” well into their adulthood. She will be sadly missed by all of them.
A Celebration of Karen’s life will be held at a later date, with details to follow.
The Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home Inc. 304 East St. Warren, PA, has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. E-mail condolences may be sent by visiting www.lewisfuneralhomeinc.com.
