Betty Jane Gerow Hazlett, 91, of Elkland PA
Betty Jane Gerow Hazlett, 91, of Elkland PA has passed away at her home on April 7, 2023.
She is survived by her children: Sylvia (Henry) Wood and Paula Jefferson. Additional survivors include her grandchildren: Brennan Wood (Milissa) and Tori Geer (Robert). Two great-grandchildren; Levi and Zoe, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and her beloved cat, Layla survive her.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, L. Mack Gerow and Ada B. Gerow Baumgarten.
The fifth of five children, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Kathryn (Loveland), Richard, Leon, and Eleanor (Croft). She was also preceded in death by her husband Robert E. Hazlett in October 2017.
Betty was born on the family farm (Merrick Rd) Knoxville, PA on November 20, 1931. She was a gifted player of keyboard instruments. While playing with a local dance band, she met Bob Hazlett; in 1953, they married. Sylvia and Paula were born in 1954 and 1961, respectively.
Betty enjoyed a 30-year career at Corning Glass Works where she worked in accounting. She enjoyed traveling, card games, board games, puzzles, dominoes, and outdoor sports. A trip to Sweden in 1974 was a family travel highlight.
After retirement, Betty and Bob enjoyed time in Florida, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. They loved planning big road trips and keeping journals of their travel adventures. She was a member of the Knoxville Baptist Church and a part of the Senior Citizens Group in Elkland. Betty maintained relationships with many friends and relatives. Her school classmates were life-long friends. Neighbors from Knoxville, Merrick Road, and Elkland became family.
Family and friends are called to Kenyon Funeral Home, 214 W. Main St., Elkland, PA on Tuesday, April 11 from 12:00 – 2:00 pm. A funeral service will be held immediately following at 2:00 pm with Pastor Ed Rodarmel officiating. She will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery following the service.
