Margaret R. “Peggy” Marconi, 99, a resident of Pinecrest Manor and formerly of Joseph Road, St. Marys, PA died on Monday, March 27, 2023.
She was born on August 22, 1923 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late to Philip H. and Maryetta Virginia Miller Dougherty. She was the second of 7 children and was the last surviving member of her family.
Peggy attended the Holy Rosary School in Johnsonburg and graduated from the Johnsonburg High School in 1942.
She married Edward Sporner who preceded her in death and then married John Marconi Jr. on May 3, 1951 who also preceded her in death. She worked At Stackpole Carbon Company during WW II and later was joint owner of the John Marconi Trucking business until John’s retirement.
Peggy belonged to the C.D.A., Altar Society for over 50 years and was secretary- recorder of the local Catholic Knights of St. George/ William Penn Association.
She had a life dream of becoming a teacher, but became caregiver for her younger siblings after both parents died while she was still a teenager.
At her stay at Pinecrest, she won the hearts of many who cared for her.
She will be remembered by those who knew her for her wit, generosity and willingness to help and teach others.
She is survived by an adopted son Stephen J. Marconi and his wife; Marilyn of Daguscahonda, and by four grandchildren; Theresa (Matthew Wilson), Michael, Melinda and Nicholas Marconi.
In addition to her first and second husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters; Frances Brody, Alice Berryhill, Bertha Ehredt and her brothers Philip as a child, James Edward, Eugene and Raymond Dougherty.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret “Peggy” Marconi will be celebrated on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 10:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Church, 337 Center Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Fr. Thomas Curry, OSB, as celebrant.
Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Community Nurses.
