Daniel “Dan” L. Bishop, 77, a lifelong resident of Duke Center, PA passed away on Thursday (March 23, 2023) at Roswell Park in Buffalo surrounded by his loving family.
Born on April 23, 1945, he was the son of C. Fred and Betty (Blauser) Bishop. On March 21, 1970 in Dayton, PA, he married his wife Dee (Huffman) Bishop, who survives.
Dan was a 1963 graduate of Otto-Eldred High School; he then obtained a B.S. from Penn State, graduating in 1968. He also served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
Dan was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, National Wild Turkey Federation, and greatly enjoyed hunting across the continent, from Newfoundland and Quebec to the Rocky Mountain states, from South Dakota to Virginia. He enjoyed the outdoors as often as possible with his son, brother, wife, and numerous great friends throughout the years. He especially enjoyed fishing on Lake Oneida, in the Lake Ontario tributaries as well as locally. He also owned and operated “Over the Hill” taxidermy shop out of his home. Any venture into Dan’s shop was sure to involve hunting stories, and lots of them. In addition to Dan’s love of the outdoors he spent many years involved in the Otto Nippers sports program, coaching both baseball and football, developing character and sportsmanship in the youth of the community. He took every opportunity to enjoy the Little League Baseball tournaments held locally. He was also a member of the American Legion #995.
He spent his career employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection in the Public Drinking Water Program, retiring in 2004.
Surviving in addition to his wife of fifty-three years are his son and best friend, Eric Bishop and his wife Rachel (DeRea) Bishop of Harrisville, Pa.; one brother, Joel J. Bishop of Duke Center, Pa. and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
