Gary W. Slocum, age 84, of Elkland, PA
Gary W. Slocum, age 84, of Elkland, PA passed away peacefully at his daughter (Kay’s) home in Painted Post, NY on Friday, February 17, 2023 with family by his side.
Born September 20, 1938 in Osceola, he was the son of the late Thomas B. and Barbara E. (Snyder) Slocum. Gary married Roselyn “Oddie” M. Frye in January 1959 and they shared 64 loving years together.
He was a retired machinist from Corning Glass Works, a self-taught stone mason and carpenter and started his own custom built long bows, called Indian River Bows. Gary was a well known local artist specializing in oil/acrylic country scenes and a musician; he loved good music and dancing with his wife. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the NRA.
He is survived by his wife, Oddie; his children, Kim (John) Rimmer of Elkland, Karen (Tom) Fischer of Williamsport, Kay (Kevin) Burris of Painted Post, NY and Ward (Abby) Slocum of Lawrence, KS; nine grandchildren, Clinton (Christina) Slocum of Williamsport, Drew (Carlee) Slocum of Mechanicsburg, Jason (Tiffany) Hetzel of Osceola, Jamie (Brian) Clemons of Adams Center, NY, Christopher (Ashlea) Collum of Tioga, Jordan (Janelle) Collum of Tioga, Preston, Rosie and Bill Slocum; 18 great grandchildren, Sebastian, Jai, Yuna, Jensen and Kenlee Slocum, Taigen Riley, Briana, Benjamin, Rebekah, Jessa, Lauren and Weston Hetzel, Gracie and Remi Clemons and Olivia, Brock, Parker and Delaney Collum and a great great granddaughter, Jordyn Moorehouse.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Scott Slocum on September 29, 2017.
Family will receive friends at Kenyon Funeral Home, 214 W. Main St., Elkland on Wednesday, Feb. 22nd from 1:00 – 3:00PM. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 3:00PM with Pastor Jamey Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Osceola.
