JoAnn Catherine (Witter) Clark, age 90, of Knoxville, PA,
JoAnn Catherine (Witter) Clark, age 90 of Knoxville, PA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, in Westfield, PA.
Born on October 11, 1932 in Westfield, PA, she was the daughter of the late Lewell and Rose (Bollock) Witter. JoAnn was a 1950 graduate of Westfield High School where she was also the yearbook artist that year. Throughout high school, she was involved in cheerleading and was crowned Miss Westfield in 1949.
On June 11, 1950, JoAnn married Evert David Clark, and they spent almost 62 loving years together before his passing in May 2012. In her younger years, JoAnn enjoyed golfing and bowling; both she and Dave were members of the Westfield Bowling League.
She worked for a handful of years at Buffard’s Flower Shop in Knoxville, and was also trained in the Japanese art of flower arranging called ikebana during the time they were stationed in Japan. JoAnn was also a member of St. John’s Epicopal Church, Eastern Star, and the Lady’s Auxiliary of the Knoxville VFW, where she held all positions of president, treasurer, or secretary at one time or another.
She volunteered at the Knoxville Community Center, the voting booth during elections, and was part of the CVHS Alumni Association where she helped plan and set up yearly banquets. In her free time, she enjoyed rides through the countryside looking at animals and scenery, crocheting and knitting, solving crossword puzzles, bird watching, and spending time at the Knoxville Library. She also loved knitting dishcloths and other items that she gave to her friends and family.
JoAnn is survived by her sons – Patrick (Melissa) Clark of Westfield, PA, C. William Clark of Trumbauersville, PA, and Matthew (Diane) Clark of Emmaus, PA; her daughters – Gail (David) Wical of Temple, TX, Mona Lewis of Grand Prairie, TX, Brenda (Larry) Scott of Union Mills, NC, and April Clark of Knoxville, PA; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sister – Jane Bianchi; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by both her parents; husband – Evert Clark; son-in-law – George Lewis; grandchild – Jason Evert Wical; great grandchild – Luke Evert Wical; brothers – Richard, Lee, and Donald Witter; sisters – Shirley Ochsenhirt and Helen Abbott; and several close friends.
Family and friends are called to Kenyon Funeral Home, 222 W. Main St., Westfield, PA, on Friday, February 24, 2023 from 4:00-6:00 pm. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 11:00 am with Pastor Ed Siddle officiating. Following the service, JoAnn will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery, Knoxville, PA.
