Mary Ann Denhoff         

COUDERSPORT, PA—With heavy hearts—and more than a few good stories—we announce the passing of Mary Ann “Mother Mare” Tucker Denhoff, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, nurse, and social butterfly, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at the age of 75.

For many years, Mary cared for others with skill, compassion, and the unmistakable authority of someone who knew exactly what was wrong—and was rarely shy about saying so.  She could calm a frightened patient, comfort a worried family, and spot an ailment from across the room.  Her family learned early that no scrape, fever, or questionable life decision was beyond her professional and compassionate assessment.

For many years Mary had a ceramic shop in Colesburg before continuing her education to become a Registered Nurse.  She waited to go back to school until her children were older.  Nursing was more than Mary’s career, it reflected who she was.  She was steady in a crisis, generous with her time, and determined to make people feel safe.  She brought that same care home, along with practical advice, strong opinions, and frequent reminders to wash our hands, drink more water, and “put something on that before it gets infected”.

Away from work, Mary loved her friends, spending time with her three girls, and socializing with her family until she couldn’t.  She had a wonderful sense of humor and a gift for making ordinary moments memorable.  Those who knew her will remember her warmth, wit, resilience, and laughter, as well as her remarkable ability to be both deeply comforting and completely unimpressed by unnecessary drama.

Mary was a member of Potter Post 192 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Coudersport.  She loved collecting teddy bears in any form and doing ceramics.  She loved Elvis Presley’s music, especially his rendition of “My Way”.

Mary is survived by her three daughters, Rhonda Kopp, Krista (Mike) Miller, and Michele (Barbara) Denhoff;  her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Linda Ayers; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved caregiver, Ethel.

Mary was predeceased by her father, James Tucker; her mother, Flora Tucker, a sister, Sharol Ludwig; and a brother, James Tucker, Jr.

In keeping with Mary’s wishes, there will be no services.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Mary’s name be made to UPMC Cole Home Health and Hospice, 102-108 South Main Street, Coudersport, PA 16915 or simply asks that you honor Mary by caring for someone who needs it, laughing whenever possible, and—-because she would insist—-taking your medication exactly as directed.

Mary’s family entrusted her care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
