Glen L. Ostrander, 90, of Port Allegany, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026, in his home in Houston, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 2, 1936, to Otis Lyle Ostrander and Mildred Beatta Jackson. Glen married Sonia Sherwood, and they shared over 64 years together.

Glen found his greatest joy in time spent with his wife, children, siblings, and friends. Family vacations exploring New York state and visits with relatives in South Carolina were treasured memories. An avid outdoorsman, Glen loved fishing, hunting, camping, and boating in the beauty of Pennsylvania. Many summer weekends were spent on the Blue Goose, the boat he shared with his brother Howard, exploring lakes and reservoirs across the state. In winter, he could often be found ice fishing at East Branch Dam, frequently alongside Uncle Ron Sherwood.

Canoe racing with his son Allen filled countless weekends, including the memorable day they unknowingly took on class V rapids on Little Pine Creek—an adventure that became a favorite story. His love of the outdoors was something he generously shared with his children, grandchildren, and neighborhood kids. He was with his grandson Dalton during his first hunting success, and he introduced his granddaughter Amber to fishing at Uncle Ron’s pond. Later in life, Glen took up birdwatching and spent many hours along the Gulf Coast with his daughter Michele.

Glen took great pride in helping build Uncle Ron’s log cabin in Sherwood Hollow, a beloved gathering place for family. One of his lifelong dreams was to visit Alaska, and he fulfilled that wish on his 70th birthday with a whirlwind three‑week adventure with his daughter Michele and her wife Sofia that included a float plane trip to a grizzly bear preserve, king salmon fishing, boating among the fjords, and even landing on top of Denali.

Glen served in the United States Air Force and worked for over 32 years at the Pierce Glass Company in Port Allegany. After retiring, he joined his brother Howard in the construction business. In his “real” retirement, Glen enjoyed woodworking, building birdhouses, frames, and other handcrafted items that reflected his patience and creativity.

He is preceded in death by his brothers Alvin and Howard Ostrander, and his sisters Harriet Wenner, Loretta Sibert, and Audrey McCollough. Along with his wife Sonia, he is survived by his children Allen Ostrander and Michele Ostrander and her wife Sofia Aguilar; his sisters Claudia Hills and Janet Renner; his grandchildren Amber Hyde and Dalton Ostrander; and his great‑grandchildren Arianna Hyde and Jackson Hyde.

Memorial contributions may be made to a conservation or wildlife organization of your choice, honoring Glen’s lifelong love of the outdoors. A family memorial will be held in Port Allegany at a later date.
