Smethport – Danny J. Baker, 67, of Smethport, passed away Saturday (September 5, 2026) at UPMC Williamsport.

He was born January 7, 1959 in Bradford, PA, the son of Michael R. Baker and Gail L. Housler.

Danny was a 1977 graduate of Smethport Area High School and was employed by Werzalit of Bradford for many years, then at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Smethport.

He was a member of the American Legion; John Berg Post #976 of Crosby, the Ruffed Grouse Society and Pheasants Forever. Dan was very active in youth area sports for many years. He had coached Smethport Girls Softball Team, Little League and Travel Team. He also was a coach for the Smethport Trap Team. His passion was hunting, which he thoroughly enjoyed doing with his nephews.

In addition to being survived by his mother, Gail, of Hazel Hurst, PA, Dan is survived by:

Four daughters: Kayleen (Ken) Balsiger and Andrea (Jerome) Hurd, both of Colorado, Mattison (Greg) Gorrell of Derrick City, and Brooke (Bobby) Pearson of Olean, NY

Grandchildren: Dylan and Elliot Balsiger, Austin and Tyler Hurd, Olivia Balsiger, Maisy and Rhys Gorrell

Five sisters: Vanessa (Bob) Black of East Smethport, Billie (Tony) Barnish and Laurie (Bob) Kinniburgh, both of Smethport, Terry (Lane) Corbett of Crosby, and Sandy Swanson of Mt. Jewett

Two brothers: Michael Baker of Smethport and Brian (Kathy) Baker of Johnsonburg

And many nieces and nephews

In addition to his father, Dan was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Kim Baker, and a brother-in-law, Bradley Swanson

At Dan’s request, there will be no visitation. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
