BRADFORD, PA — The boots have been kicked off, the sweat has dried, and the big checks have officially been awarded! The Trail Central™ America 250 Trail Challenge has concluded, and to celebrate the astounding achievements of our outdoor community, the Allegheny National Forest Visitors Bureau officially presented $2,500 in total funding to four dedicated local trail organizations.

Over the course of the challenge, 272 trail titans logged a mind-blowing 53,087 miles and burned over 4.1 million calories across 2,287 workouts—proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that McKean County has the most unstoppable trail community in the Commonwealth! To put those numbers into perspective, 53,087 miles is enough distance to walk around the entire planet Earth twice (with enough miles left over for a victory lap to Florida), or walk the iconic Kinzua Skywalk back and forth over 449,000 times!

In honor of America’s 250th birthday, an extraordinary 66 participants went above and beyond by logging more than 250 individual miles each during the challenge.

The Grand Prize & Club Awards

While every single participant helped prove that McKean County runs on dirt and determination, one club claimed the top spot to earn the $1,000 grand prize, while the remaining three trail groups each received $500 to support ongoing trail development, maintenance, and expansion:

• 1st Place Champion ($1,000 Winner): Tuna Valley Trail Association (TVTA) — 27,521.29 Miles! TVTA single-handedly logged enough distance to trek around the entire globe on their own!
• 2nd Place ($500 Winner): Trail Association McKean/Elk Divide (TAMED) — 19,319.02 Miles! TAMED logged enough miles to traverse the entire Appalachian Trail nearly 9 times over.
• 3rd Place ($500 Winner): Mt. Jewett to Kinzua Bridge Trail Club (MJ2KB) —MJ2KB logged enough distance to lay a continuous row of the Kinzua Skywalk’s famous glass floor panels all the way from Mount Jewett, PA straight across the Atlantic Ocean to London, England!
• 4th Place ($500 Winner): Kinzua Valley Trail Club (KVTC) — 1,086.40 Miles! KVTC walked the equivalent distance of trekking from Bradford, PA all the way to Jacksonville, Florida!

A Celebration of Community on the Dirt

Beyond the jaw-dropping stats and financial support for our local clubs, the real victory was seeing local trailheads packed with families, dog walkers, hardcore runners, and visitors soaking in the gorgeous landscapes of the Pennsylvania Wilds.

“Seeing hundreds of people out on our trails every single day—connecting with nature, supporting our local trail clubs, and pushing their personal limits—was the absolute best part of this entire challenge,” said Rustin Lippincott, Executive Director, Trail Central – Allegheny National Forest Visitors Bureau. “We had people tracking miles on their lunch breaks, logging weekend hikes with their kids, and showing the entire state what makes McKean County the ultimate outdoor destination. We’re pretty sure Sasquatch himself had to step off the path a few times just to let our hikers pass!”

The Allegheny National Forest Visitors Bureau and Trail Central extend a massive thank you to all the participants, volunteers, and trail organizations who maintain these world-class pathways year-round.
