PUC Audits Identify Millions in Savings for Pennsylvania Utilities and Consumers
2025-26 audit report highlights $41 million in realized savings, with millions more in projected annual and one-time savings
HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission’s (PUC’s) Bureau of Audits conducted six audits and efficiency investigations of utility companies during Fiscal Year 2025-26, identifying $41 million in realized one-time savings. The Bureau also projected additional savings of $7.75 million annually and $1.60 million in one-time savings for Pennsylvania’s utilities and consumers, according to its most recent annual report.
“These results demonstrate the real value of rigorous utility oversight,” said PUC Chairman Steve DeFrank. “With $41 million in realized savings and millions more in projected savings, the work of our Bureau of Audits is delivering tangible benefits for Pennsylvania utilities and consumers.”
The Commission voted 5-0 today to publish its Fiscal Year 2025-26 annual report on PUC management audits (MAs) and management efficiency investigations (MEIs). These reviews work to identify efficiencies and savings for utilities, including potential improvements in operations, service reliability and safety programs.
