The Coudersport Rotary Club welcomed District Governor Sean Murtagh at its August 17, 2026, meeting at A&W West End Grill. Area Governor Bonnie Smith, a 26-year Rotarian, introduced Murtagh, who is a 35-year veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and a past president of the Shepherdstown Rotary Club.

Murtagh discussed this year’s Rotary theme, “Create Lasting Impact,” and encouraged members to consider the legacy they want to leave through service. He emphasized the importance of honoring Rotary’s long history while continuing to engage with the community through programs such as the Community Christmas Concert, Calendar Lottery and youth programs.

Membership growth was also a focus. Murtagh encouraged Rotarians to reach out to people who want to serve but may not know how to get involved. He noted that some clubs have established evening “Companion Clubs” to provide an option for those unable to attend traditional lunchtime meetings.

Murtagh also highlighted Rotary Foundation initiatives, including ShelterBox disaster relief and the Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust (CART), which has awarded nearly $20 million in research grants. Murtagh shared that CART has special significance for him after losing his mother to Alzheimer’s disease.

He also encouraged members to continue enjoying the fellowship and fun that are an important part of Rotary.

Following his presentation, Coudersport Rotary presented Murtagh with a basket of maple products from Ianson’s Farm as a thank-you for his visit.
