3 Penn College teams post wins, 3 esports teams ready to start
Pennsylvania College of Technology wrestlers posted a 3-0 week and the women’s and men’s basketball teams both picked up victories last week, while three esports teams are set to get into action this week.

Women’s basketball
Hosting winless Wells College in a United East game on Tuesday, Penn College never trailed in scoring a 78-24 victory and sweeping the season series, 2-0.
Maddie Adams, of Montoursville, scored 13 points to lead the Wildcats, while Eliza Newcomer, of Newell, had a team-high 11 rebounds.
Playing in a big-time venue at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., on Friday, Penn College scored a 47-37 UE win over Gallaudet University that gave third-year coach Britni Mohney her most wins in a season (7 UE and 8 overall), while taking the season series, 2-0.
Aubrey Stetts, of Jersey Shore, led Penn College with 12 points. Penn College outscored the Bison in points off turnovers, 17-10, as the Wildcats won their fourth game in a row and sixth out of seven.
At St. Mary’s (Md.) College in UE play on Saturday, Penn College’s four-game win streak was snapped by a 50-38 loss to drop the Wildcats to 7-5 in the conference and 8-13 overall.
With the score tied at 36-all after three quarters, St. Mary’s outscored Penn College 14-2 in the fourth for its win.
Emily Pardee, of Williamsport, led the Wildcats with 12 points.

Men’s basketball
For the third time in its last seven conference games, Penn College lost by three or fewer points as it dropped an 83-80 decision to Wells College at home on Tuesday.
The Wildcats opened an 11-point lead midway through the first half and led 42-35 at the intermission. But Wells came back in the second half to lead by eight several times before winning by three and taking the season series, 2-0.
Livingston Cross, of Union, New Jersey, led Penn College with 17 points.
At Gallaudet University on Friday, the Wildcats rolled to a 17-point halftime lead en route to a 75-58 UE victory to sweep the season series, 2-0.
Gavin Barrett, of Roselle, New Jersey, topped Penn College with 17 points and eight assists.
On Saturday at St. Mary’s (Md.) College, Penn College lost, 73-67, in a UE game. The Wildcats now are 4-8 in the conference and 9-12 overall after the season series split.
After multiple tied scores during the game, the last at 61 with 4:34 showing, St. Mary’s used a 12-6 finish to win by six.
Rees Watkins, of Loyalsock Township, ended with 17 points to lead Penn College.

Wrestling
On their own mats on Saturday, the Wildcats knocked off Thaddeus Stevens College, 47-7; Keystone College, 44-6; and Elmira College, 48-6, to improve to 10-8.
On the day, Noah Hunt, of Muncy; Patrick Snoke, of Northampton; Brett Patton, of West Chester; Nick Semon, of Norristown; Mason Leshock, of Shamokin; Gabriel Kennedy-Citeroni, of Blairsville; and Zach Miller, of Lock Haven, all picked up at least one win by fall, while Isaac Cory, of Montoursville, earned a technical fall.
In dual meets since 2017, Penn College is 4-0 against Thaddeus Stevens and 3-2 against Keystone College. The match against Elmira was its first.

On the horizon:
While the college’s winter/spring iRacing season began the week of Jan. 23, teams in NACE Rocket League Varsity, NACE Overwatch 2 and Valorant get going this week with competition at 7 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.
The Rocket League team manager is Alex Nazarchuk, of Lebanon. Also on the team are Ryan Bannan, of Honey Brook; Max Gudeman, of Freeland, Maryland; Clinton Leberknecht, of Pleasant Hall; Elazar Medina, of York; James Sickles, of Mckean; Ivan Rapp, of Pittsburgh; Kyle Silva, of Tyrone; and Payton Rowe, of Fleetwood.
Frankie Gagliardi, of Pottstown, is the Overwatch team manager. On the roster are Wyatt Coble, of West Lawn; Nathan Cunningham, of Altoona; Ryan Hess, of Orangeville; Kyle Venarchick, of Clayton, Delaware; and Jayden Miller, of Easton.
Drew Thomas, of State College, manages the Valorant team, which includes Cooper Smith, of Carlisle; JD Heckman, of Susquehanna; Blaine Mann, of Jersey Shore; Samuel Rowcliffe, of York; Tyler Trigg, of Lititz; Lucas Clouser, of Reading; Alex Baruffi, of Troy; Xander Jones, of Kulpmont; and Nick Lorson, of Williamsport.
Their seasons continue through the week of March 20.

Scholar-athlete honoree
Senior Rosey Thomas, of Port Allegany, earned the inaugural United East women’s cross-country Senior Scholar-Athlete award.
Thomas has been a stalwart on the team from the get-go, opening her career with Newcomer Runner of the Year honors and earning all-conference first-team honors the following season. Despite injuries throughout her career, she continually placed among the top of the Wildcat squad.
In the classroom, Thomas excelled as she held a 3.8 GPA while majoring in nursing and minoring in psychology. Making the Dean’s List nearly every semester, she also was a member of the Nursing International Honor Society, Omega Theta Tau.
In December, Thomas graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors. Around the community, Thomas aided in multiple ways, including stints with the Lycoming County SPCA and the Christ Community Worship Center Food Pantry.
