The 2026 Laurel Concert Series offers five shows that will appeal to a wide range of musical tastes. The concerts are free and open to the public. Donations to support them are appreciated.
House of Sterling, a Wellsboro-based folk-Americana duo, opens the series at 7 p.m. Monday, June 15 on the outdoor stage at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro. Molly Cary and Joe Callahan will play their guitars and sing their originals and some unexpected covers. Their diverse sound is a modern twist on the harmony-centric approach taken by The Everly Brothers and Simon & Garfunkel with a nod to the old-time bluegrass tradition for which Wellsboro and the greater Tioga County area are known. In case of rain or a heat wave, this concert will be moved indoors to the Coolidge Theatre.
The 3Ds, a four-member band from the Wellsboro area, will play folk, Celtic and Great American Songbook music at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, on the Deane Center’s outdoor stage. Performing will be David Milano on guitar, David Driskell on clarinet, flute, whistle and musical saw, Daria Lin-GueIig on hammered dulcimer and concertina, and Anne Acker on upright bass. In late 2016, Daria and the two Davids formed The 3Ds after deciding to meld their distinctly varied musical backgrounds. Lin-Guelig on her hammered dulcimer delivered traditional old-time and Celtic music; multi-instrumentalist Driskell added jazz and ragtime; and Milano on his finger-style guitar introduced folk, pop, and Americana. Their genre-blending experiment gave the three an opportunity to stretch their musical legs, resulting in a unique ensemble with an uncommonly engaging and diverse musical repertoire. In May of 2022, Anne Acker joined, adding her upright bass to the mix. In case of rain or a heat wave, this concert will be moved indoors to the Coolidge Theatre.
The “Almost World-Famous” Wellsboro Town Band will perform on The Green at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 17. This concert coincides with Director Dan Sensenig and his wife Margaret’s 20th wedding anniversary and will feature marches, pop and Broadway songs near and dear to both of their hearts from “The Power of Love” to “Phantom of the Opera.” Bring lawn chairs, a blanket, a picnic supper and enjoy. In case of inclement weather, this concert will be held indoors in the Wellsboro School District Auditorium located at 227 Nichols Street.
The Wellsboro Men’s and Women’s Choruses will sing hits from Broadway and movie musicals at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 18 in the First Presbyterian Church at 130 Main Street in Wellsboro. The women will perform “Lullaby of Broadway,” “Singin’ In the Rain,” “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair,” “Dancing Queen,” and others. The men will sing “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” “Oklahoma,” “If I Were a Rich Man,” “Circle of Life,” “Bring Him Home,” and more. The two choruses will join in singing “O, America.”
Molly’s Boys Jug Band will open the Queens Preview at 4:30 p.m. Friday, June 19 on the Deane Center’s outdoor stage. The 22 Laurel Queen candidates will be introduced at 5 p.m. and invited to perform using homemade plastic drums, spoons and washboards. Molly’s Boys will captivate the audience by playing blues, folk, old-time, and original songs, with Jay Short of Williamsport on lead guitar, Gerry Cavaliere of Danville on guitar and Dave Driskell of Wellsboro on clarinet, sax, flute, banjo, musical saw, jug and washboard. In case of rain or a heat wave, this concert will be moved indoors to the Coolidge Theatre.
