Penn College Athletics At A Glance

Last week in review:
GOLF—The men’s team made it four in a row, and five out of six, United East Conference Championship titles, and with it an accompanying trip to the NCAA Division III Championships.
TENNIS—The men’s and women’s teams both won UE first-round games and are headed to the semifinals, the women on Tuesday and the men on Wednesday. With six conference wins, the men’s squad has its best single-season UE win mark ever, and its eight overall wins are a program best. The women’s seven-win UEC and eight-win overall marks are also the best in program history dating to 2013-14.
LACROSSE—The men won their UE regular-season finale to secure the second seed and will host a semifinal on Wednesday night.
SOFTBALL—With 29 wins under their belts, and closing in on their third 30-win season in four years, a six-win, no-loss week earned the Wildcats the No. 3 UE seed and home games in a best-of-three series starting on Friday.
GOLF
Last week’s hometown highlights: In the UE Championship Friday and Saturday, Gunner Redmond, of Lock Haven, shot 74-79—149 and finished second, and Chase Dillman, of Boyertown, shot 72-80—152 to tie for fourth, while Brady Handy, of Huntingdon, shot 73-81—154 to tie for eighth, Logan Gawlinski, of Kittanning, shot 74-83—157 for 17th, and Brett Keenan, of Plymouth Meeting, shot 86-85—171 for 31st.
On Monday, in the final tune-up before the conference championship, Dillman finished third in the Penn State Altoona Spring Invitational with a one-under-par 71. He was followed by Redmond and Keenan, who tied for fifth with 73s, and Handy, who shot an 80 to tie for 24th.

MEN’S TENNIS
Last week’s hometown highlights: Singles winners against Lancaster Bible on Saturday for the Wildcats were Josh Myers, of Hughesville at No. 1, Avery Hawk, of York Springs, at No. 4, and by forfeit at No. 6. Doubles winners were Logan Ogden, of South Williamsport–Matt Williams, of Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, at No. 1, Myers-Hawk at No. 2, and by forfeit at No. 3.
During the regular season against St. Mary’s College, St. Mary’s won, 7-0.

WOMEN’S TENNIS
Last week’s hometown highlights: Singles winners for the Wildcats against Penn State Brandywine on Saturday were Faith Murray, of Dillsburg, at No. 2, Leah Vest, of Muncy, at No. 3, and Kiera Wene, of Ephrata, at No. 4. Taking their doubles matches were Murray-Vest at No. 2, and Wene-Cici Miller, of Dover, at No. 3.
During the regular season against Penn State Harrisburg, Harrisburg won, 6-1.
Also, Lauren Peck, of South Williamsport, was named the UE Player of the Week after a 3-0 singles record for the period of April 13-19.

MEN’S LACROSSE
Last week’s hometown highlights: In Wednesday’s win at Pitt-Bradford, Owen Kupsey, of Chadds Ford, had four goals and one assist, and Elliot Dotson, of Wilmington, Delaware, had two goals and three assists, while goalie Ryan Twist, of Great Meadows, New Jersey, had three saves in 30 minutes of work.
Also, Elliot Dotson and Ben Malarkey, of Malvern, earned the UE Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards for the period of April 14-19. Dotson totaled 14 points, and Malarkey caused four turnovers and scooped up seven ground balls.

SOFTBALL
Last week’s hometown highlights: In Tuesday’s sweep at Keystone College, Mackenzi Tice, of Mansfield, spun another one-hitter, fanning 11 to surpass 300 career Ks and pick up her 16th win, while Sofia Mileto, of Loyalsock Township, went 3 for 4 at the plate with two triples and five RBIs, and Payton Crawford, of Bloomsburg, and Taylor Brown, of Bellefonte, both homered in the first game. In the second contest, Brown had a three-run home run, and Crawford had a two-run blast to pace the offense, as pitcher Laney Wilson, of Doylestown, improved to 5-2.
At Penn State Harrisburg on Thursday, Tice held Harrisburg to a single first-inning run, and Penn College runs in the second, on an RBI triple by Harley Kunes, of Mill Hall, and the seventh inning produced Tice’s 17th “W.” In the nightcap, Tice pitched the final three innings of one-hit relief and fanned seven for her program single-season record 18th win, and Kunes again sparked the offense with two hits, including a double, five RBIs and two runs scored.
Wrapping up the regular season at Gallaudet University on Friday and hiking their win streak to eight games, Brown went 3 for 4 with four RBIs and three runs scored, and Carissa Lusk, of Lititz, was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored in the opener, as Wilson won her sixth game in the circle. In the second game, Crawford homered, doubled and plated four runs, Brown tripled and ended with three RBIs, and Wilson pitched again and won her second game of the day.
When Penn College played Penn State Abington during the regular season, Penn College won by scores of 10-7 and 5-2.
