On Saturdays, April 11 and 25, the Wellsboro Community Concert Association is hosting the last two concerts of its 2025-2026 season.
The all-star bluegrass supergroup, the John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band will take the Coolidge Theatre stage in Wellsboro at 7:30 p.m. next Saturday.
The four legendary, award-winning musicians featured in J2B2 are: three vocalists John Jorgenson on acoustic guitar and mandolin; Herb Pedersen on banjo and acoustic guitar and Patrick Sauber on acoustic guitar. The fourth bandsman is Mark Fain on bass.
Known for its blend of bluegrass, country, and folk rock, J2B2 began touring and performing around 2011. The band’s debut was at the Grand Ole Opry in October of 2013. They released their first album, “From The Crow’s Nest” in 2018.
J2B2’s national and international live shows have received outstanding reviews.
They perform American roots music at its finest thanks to their impeccable musicianship, incredible harmony vocals with a fresh twist, combining bluegrass with elements of West Coast folk rock, incomparable songwriting, and their seasoned showmanship.
In 1985 Jorgenson and Pederson founded the Desert Rose Band, which broke up in 1994. Jorgenson founded the Hellecasters in 1990, which stopped recording as a band around 2002 after producing three albums. Jorgenson toured with Elton John for six years from 1995 to 2000.
Pedersen was a member of The Dillards from 1968 to 1971 and over the years has worked with Chris Hillman, Earl Scruggs, Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris, Tony Rice, Dan Fogelberg, Stephen Stills, Linda Ronstadt, Kris Kristofferson, John Prine, Jackson Browne and John Denver.
Fain toured and recorded for Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder for 13 years, ffrom 1997 to 2009. Known for his work in bluegrass, country, and Americana, he has toured and recorded with a variety of artists, such as Alan Jackson, Dolly Parton, Alison Krauss, Bruce Hornsby, John Fogerty, and Ry Cooder.
Sauber quickly made a name for himself in the world of bluegrass and old-time music. Adept on guitar, mandolin and banjo, Sauber appeared on screen in “A Mighty Wind” in 2003 and has toured with both Peter Rowan and Laurie Lewis and contributed to her acclaimed album “The Hazel and Alice Sessions” in 2016.
