MARK KELLOGG QUINTET RETURNS TO PITT-BRADFORD

BRADFORD, Pa. — The Mark Kellogg Jazz Quintet returns to Pitt-Bradford Saturday with a 7 p.m. concert in the Harriett B. Wick Chapel.
Sponsored by the Marilyn Horne Museum and Exhibit Center, the event is the first in the museum’s revived Candlelight Concert Series.
The concert series highlights regional performers and cultural opportunities through recital-style events held at the museum downtown or on the Pitt-Bradford campus, all free of charge to the public.
“The concert series has always felt like an integral part of what the Marilyn Horne Museum can contribute to the Bradford arts scene,” said Taylor Tarahteeff, director of the museum. “I was first introduced to these events while serving as a student ambassador for the museum. I was always amazed at how elegant and intimate these performances could be.”
The Mark Kellogg Jazz Quintet brings together an accomplished ensemble of performers and educators, led by bass trombonist Mark Kellogg. A professor of trombone, euphonium and brass chamber music at the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester (N.Y.), Kellogg also serves as chair of the winds, brass and percussion department and holds affiliate faculty appointments in the school’s departments of jazz and contemporary media and music teaching and learning.
He is co-director of the Eastman Trombone Choir and director of Eastman to Go, the school’s community engagement program. Throughout his career, Kellogg has embraced a wide range of musical roles — concerto soloist, chamber musician, orchestral performer and jazz player — bringing a breadth of experience and artistry to every stage. He has been a member of the San Francisco Symphony and played with Wynton Marsalis and Mel Tormé, among others.
Joining Kellogg are vocalist Amy Azzara, a graduate of the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Vocal Performance; pianist Christopher Azzara, professor of Music Teaching and Learning and affiliate faculty of Jazz Studies and Contemporary Media at the Eastman School of Music; bassist Kyle Vock, an active performer throughout the western New York area in rock, blues, jazz and contemporary styles; and drummer Eric Schmitz, professor of Jazz Studies at SUNY Oswego.
The quintet will perform selections from the Great American Songbook, including compositions by Jule Styne, Harry Warren, Isham Jones and Walter Donaldson. The program will also feature two original compositions by Amy Azzara and one by Mark Kellogg.
Seating is open, and reservations are not needed. The performance is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
