Golden Afternoons Program

Author Bill Robertson to Present Free Golden Afternoons Program about The American Revolutionary War This Coming Tuesday, March 10
William P. “Bill” Robertson of Duke Center in McKean County, PA will present information about American Revolutionary War battles from two books he has written during the free Golden Afternoons program at 1 p.m. this coming Tuesday, March 10 in the lobby at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro.
This program is free. Anyone who is 65 years of age or older is welcome to attend. Free refreshments will be provided.
Six of the 8 stories in Robertson’s “War in The Colonies” and 4 of the 9 stories in his follow-up book, “More War,” are about battles fought during the American Revolutionary War that began on April 18, 1775 and ended on September 3, 1783. The rest of the stories are about the War of 1812.
“I plan to discuss Revolutionary War battles from both books during my presentation,” Robertson said. “What ‘War in The Colonies’ reveals to the reader is that America was as divided in colonial times as we are today. In those days, the two factions were the Patriots (who favored independence) and the Tories (who sided with the King), and today are the liberals and conservatives.”
Robertson will be dressed as a Morgan’s Rifleman and have a Pennsylvania long rifle on display. “General Daniel Morgan’s regiment played a vital role at the Battle of Saratoga, the turning point of the American Revolution. I’ll also be discussing Morgan’s strategy at the Battle of Cowpens, fought in the South,” Robertson said.
He began freelancing short stories, poetry, and articles in 1978. Since then,
Robertson has published 74 books. Among them are: 10 Civil War Bucktail novels, 3 French & Indian War novels, 9 “Ghosts Revisited” books, and “Pennsylvania Strange.” “In 2026, I released ‘New York State Strange: 91 Creepy Tales of The Empire State’,” which includes local stories about the Pink House in Wellsville and Elmira College, to name a few.”
Robertson will have copies of “War in The Colonies,” “More War” and “New York State Strange” available for purchase.
To ensure there will be enough refreshments, those attending are asked to pre-register (RSVP) online at deanecenter.com or by calling 570-724-6220 or emailing director@deanecenter.com.
