AUTHORS BRING GHOSTLY STORIES TO ‘HAUNTINGS’ TODAY

BRADFORD, Pa. — Haunted forests, gothic castles, and things that go bump in the night will come alive at the Hauntings Literary Tour at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Studio Theater of Blaisdell Hall at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
The free event will feature a panel of authors — Elizabeth Costello, Carolyn Korsmeyer, Valerie Nieman, Nancy McCabe, and Crissa-Jean Chappell — each presenting from their forthcoming or current novels. Together, they’ll explore how ghosts and the supernatural influence literature and share insights into crafting haunted tales for middle-grade, young-adult, and adult readers.
Costello, an editor based in Portland, Ore., and co-founder of the Ekphraestival there, debuts her novel “The Good War,” a story of family, loss, and lingering spirits.
Korsmeyer, a philosopher-turned-novelist from Buffalo, N.Y., introduces “Riddle of Spirit and Bone,” in which buried secrets connect to the 19th-century spiritualist movement.
Award-winning writer Nieman will discuss “Upon the Corner of the Moon: A Tale of the Macbeths,” inspired by Scottish legend and prophecy.
McCabe, emeritus professor of writing at Pitt-Bradford and Pushcart Prize recipient, presents “Fires Burning Underground,” a middle-grade novel about friendship, grief, and self-discovery.
Chappell, an author of several acclaimed young-adult novels from Brooklyn, N.Y., rounds out the lineup with her vivid, character-driven stories that often explore identity and belonging.
The Hauntings tour is a seven-stop Halloween-week tour throughout Northwest Pennsylvania and Western New York.
“The Hauntings Literary Tour offers a rich, atmospheric evening that blends creative inspiration with the thrill of storytelling,” said Courtney Mealy, director of arts programming at Pitt-Bradford. “It’s the perfect way to celebrate the season with literature that lingers.”
After the event, books will be available from On the Side Books for purchase and signing.
