Michael J. Polaski, Jr., 90, of 405 Third Avenue, Johnsonburg, PA died early Monday morning, January 16, 2023 at Penn Highlands-Elk, St. Marys. He was born May 9, 1932 in in Johnsonburg a son to the late Michael J. Polaski, Sr. and Ida Kriegish Polaski. On October 8, 1955 in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, he married Anna M. Cherry and she survives.
Mike was a lifelong resident of Johnsonburg and a graduate of Johnsonburg High School. In 1994 he retired from the Johnsonburg Paper Mill after 40 years of service. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church and had been a member of the Johnsonburg Shamrocks Semi-Pro Football Team. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and trap. He loved to work in his garden and go berry picking and loved canning his harvests, and he enjoyed making homemade wine. Mike especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mike was a Korean Era Army Vet serving overseas as a Private First Class munitions hander with A Company, 22nd Infantry Regt., 4th Division.
Mike is survived by his wife Annie at home, 2 sons; Geno (Cindy) Polaski of Johnsonburg, Pat (Pam) Polaski of Wilcox, 3 daughters; Mary Long (Paul) and Ida Padasak (Pete) all of Johnsonburg and Michelle Cherry (Dick) of Wilcox and 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers; Jake Polaski of Johnsonburg and Dave (Jean) Polaski of St. Marys and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mike is predecease by sisters Shirley “Anne” Novasat and Mary Iorfida and a brother Donald Polaski.
Funeral Services for Michael J. “Mike” Polaski, Jr. will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. Interment will be private in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Johnsonburg.
