John Sidney Pearsall, 91, of Rochester, formerly of Shinglehouse, Pa.
John Sidney Pearsall, 91, of Rochester, formerly of Shinglehouse, Pa., passed away in his home on Saturday, January 7, 2023.
Born on Saturday, March 7, 1931, in Olean, he was a son of John S. Sr. and Sarah Woodard Pearsall.
John was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School. He was a US Navy veteran having served during the Korean War.
John graduated from Alfred University and received two Masters degrees from Columbia University.
He worked as a system analyst for National Biscuit Company (Nabisco), Chase Manhattan Bank, and the Rochester Public Library, retiring in January of 1981.
He was a former member of the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church and a former member of Sharon Lodge #598 F. & A.M. in Shinglehouse. John volunteered for over 30 years at the Strong National Museum of Play and the Rochester Civic Garden Center.. He served on the board of the Friends of Mt. Hope Cemetery in Rochester for over 30 years. He enjoyed travel and visited most of the United States, nearly all the countries of Europe, several countries in the Far East, North Africa, Mexico, and South America.
Surviving are several close and caring friends.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by a brother, James H. Pearsall; and his partner, Edward P. Rosenberg.
Private funeral services will be held in the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home in Shinglehouse, Pa., with Pastor Clint Pearsall of the First Baptist Church, Shinglehouse, officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Friends of Mt. Hope Cemetery, PO Box 18713, Rochester, NY 14618-0713 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
John entrusted his care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, Pa.
