Smethport – Stephen V. Riddell, 85, of Smethport, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday (February 21, 2025) 

He was born October 31, 1939 in Philadelphia,  son of Robert W. and Evelyn L. (Valentine) Riddell. On September 12, 1959, in Delaware County, PA, he married Gail A. Gearhart, who survives.

Steve was a graduate of Lansdowne- Aldan High School of Lansdowne, PA. He then went on to trade school becoming a journeyman plumber in Philadelphia. In 1978, he relocated his family to Smethport and began working at Quaker State/Petrowax until his retirement.  

He enjoyed hunting deer, but especially loved hunting grouse with his beloved birddogs.  Steve loved his Philadelphia Eagles (2025 Superbowl Champions) and his Philadelphia Flyers sports teams.  Most of all, he loved his family.

He was a member of the Ruffed Grouse Society, Smethport Country Club, Mt. Jewett Sportsmen’s Club and a lifetime member of the Keating Sportsman’s Club.  

In addition to his wife, Gail, he is survived by:

Three sons: Scott D. (Valerie) Riddell of Clearfield, PA, Glenn G. (Stephanie) Riddell of Celina, TX and Gary V. (Pamela) Riddell of Bethlehem, PA

One daughter: Lori J. (Terry) Gideon of Smethport

Grandchildren:  Ashley Bohlin, Kendal Riddell, Cody Gideon, Brianna Riddell and Janessa Riddell

And ten great grandchildren

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his only brother, Bruce Riddell.

At Steve’s request, a private family service will be held. Burial will be in the Clermont Cemetery.
