Penn College Sports Update
Penn College women boast 2-0 week
The Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s basketball team put together a perfect 2-0 week with the regular season nearing its end.
Women’s Basketball
After losses in its previous three games, Penn College got back on the winning track Wednesday with a 47-42 home United East win against Keystone College. Gigi Parlante of Williamsport paced the offense with 16 points.
At Penn State Brandywine on Saturday, the Wildcats won 86-66 and in doing so posted their first 10-win season in conference play since 2015. Their 13 overall wins also are the most since that same season. Parlante recorded her 14th double-double with 23 points and 15 rebounds and Lexi Troup of Huntingdon led four others scoring in double digits with 15 points.

Men’s Basketball
Trailing by nine points with 5:13 left against Keystone College on Wednesday, the Wildcats rallied to tie the score at 79 with 29 seconds remaining, only to lose 81-79 on a buzzer-beater as time expired. Gavin Barrett of Roselle, New Jersey, led the offense with 19 points and Livingston Cross of Union, New Jersey, recorded his NCAA D-III-leading 18th double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
After falling behind St. Elizabeth University by 24 points in the second half on Saturday, Penn College whittled away over the final 13:39, taking its only lead at 82-81 with 1:36 left before falling 90-85. In picking up his 19th double-double of the season, Cross scored 31 points and had 23 rebounds. Also, DJ Smith III of Dallastown and Barrett ended with 19 and 18 points, respectively.
Barrett now has 1,500 career points, third on the Wildcat men’s all-time scoring list. Cross, with 641 career rebounds, is second on the all-time list. Cross and Barrett now are tied for the most career 30-plus point games, both with five.
Despite the defeat, the Wildcats are assured of making the United East postseason for the second straight season.

Wrestling
Noah Hunt of Muncy was named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Wrestler of the Week for Jan. 27-Feb. 2 after he posted a 5-0 record with four first-period falls and a technical fall in his first competition back from injury and wrestling down to 141 pounds. The weekly award is the second time Hunt has been honored. He is five wins shy of becoming the program’s first 100-career-match winner.

Academics
Penn College continued its excellence in the classroom with 57 student-athletes earning 2024 United East Fall Scholar-Athlete recognition. That is an increase of eight student-athletes compared to the fall 2023 semester. Penn College finished sixth in the 17-school conference for the semester.
To be selected, a student-athlete competing in a fall conference-sponsored sport must achieve a GPA of 3.2 or higher for the semester and have been in good standing on his or her team.
