Joan “Jennie” Viglione Morelli, 89, of Alpine Street, Ridgway, PA.
Joan “Jennie” Viglione Morelli, 89, of Alpine Street, Ridgway, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, following a brief illness.
She was born on February 22, 1935, in Ridgway, a daughter of the late Joseph and Lena Viglione.
Jennie’s love for God and family was extraordinary, she was known for her smile and love of laughter, the best medicine, Livio often said how her smile lights up the darkest room. Her smile was the brightest when her family were all together for Sunday dinner. She loved playing cards at The Elks Club with her girlfriends, also playing cinch after Sunday dinner with her granddaughters.
She graduated from St. Leo’s High School and went to work at the Center Market in Ridgway where she met and fell in love with her husband Livio, they were married October 20, 1956, and enjoyed 67 years of marriage. Together they owned and operated a wonderful corner store, Morelli’s Meat Market for many successful years. Later she worked in the Ridgway School District and often spoke of how rewarding it was to help educate the youth of Ridgway. Jennie was a proud member of St. Leo’s Church where she was involved in Alter Guild and C.D. of A.
Jennie is survived by three children: Arthur Morelli of Kersey, Patty (Roger) Carlson of Ridgway, and Mike (Jen) Morelli of Ridgway, and 2 granddaughters, Danielle Carlson of Charleston, SC, and Kara Morelli of Milford, PA. She is also survived by 2 brothers, Joseph (Sandy) Viglione of Ridgway and Dave (Patty) Viglione of Hamburg, NY, and a sister-in-law, Barbare Viglione of Ridgway.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Livio in 2023, 3 sisters, Antoinette “Toni” Kilhoffer, Mary Popson, and Carmella Distler, a brother, Michael Viglione, and a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Morelli.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Joan Morelli will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at St. Leo Magnus Church, 111 Depot Street, Ridgway, PA 15853, with Fr. Justin Pino officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Leo Cemetery.
Visitation will be held privately by the family.
