Cindy L. Swander, 70, of Shonts Road, Bradford, passed away at home on Sunday, January 19, 2025, with her husband and son by her side.
Born April 1, 1954, in Culver, she was a daughter of the late Emma (Sunderlin) Burns and Larry Rorabaugh.
Cindy was a 1972 graduate of Bradford High School.
On July 1, 1972, in Bradford, she married Donald G. Swander, who survives.
Cindy was a very talented artist and crafter. During her years as a homemaker and raising her two boys, Tyson 1974, and Damien 1978, she became accomplished as a gardener, a seamstress making clothes for family, friends, and all 27 of the outfits for her sons marching club. Later, she made scarves and jewelry for their country dance club and sold them as far as Buffalo NY in late 90’s. She and her husband took disco lessons in the mid seventies and would go after class to teach what they had learned at the Holiday Inn in Bradford. Don and Cindy enjoyed performing in Kiwanis Kaper’s throughout the 1980’s, joined by their son Damien in 1988. In 1989 she and her husband took country western couples, and line dancing. Soon after, they were asked by their instructors to teach in Ellicottville NY. Then taught in the Bradford area throughout the 1990’s, with Cindy taking care of the music, and Don teaching. Within those years Cindy choreographed and published three dances, one of which became shared outside the US. The summer of ‘92 she planned a three-week vacation traveling all over the USA. She became a score keeper during her son’s years in baseball. She became proficient at drawing, photography, and origami, leaving many folded dollar bills for tips. She took up wood burning, creating many beautiful carvings, including small “dog tags” with your dog breed engraved into it to be worn as a necklace. During her married life, Cindy also managed to raise, care for and enjoy the company of almost 20 dogs, and close to a dozen cats. Her greatest joy was being a wife to Don, and mother to her boys.
