Philip L. “Toby” Mangus, 82, of 100 Rockland Avenue, Bradford, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Bradford Regional Medical Center.
Born January 5, 1943, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Ralph and Angeline “Angie” (George) Mangus. He was a 1962 graduate of Bradford High School.
On July 9, 1964, he was drafted into the United States Army. He served with Company D 249th Engineer Brigade 7th and was honorably discharged on June 23, 1967. He was awarded the National Defense Service and the Rifle Sharpshooters Badge.
On February 5, 2000, in Bradford, he married Barbara A. (Haynes) Zeigler Mangus, who preceded him in death on February 10, 2003. They were together for over 15 years.
Toby was employed at the Bradford City Water Authority for nearly 20 years, at the same time he co-owned the Mixing Bowl Bakery on Main Street, and he retired as a Housing Rehabilitation Specialist for the Office of Economic Community Development. He was a member of the Bradford Special Police Department.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 108, where he held various offices, and at the Bradford Moose Lodge, The Fraternal Order of the Eagles #2432, where he held offices as secretary and membership committee.
Surviving are two daughters, Jodi (Todd Phillips) Mangus, of Bradford, and Angela (Jay) Warner, of Bradford, their mother S. Diane (Barr) White of Bradford, three grandchildren, Emily Warner, Brendan Warner, and Gabriel Phillips, one sister Nechia (Marty) Austin, one brother Lance (Kathy) Mangus and several nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed by his faithful canine companion Taco.
He was a longtime camper at The Idlewood Campground where he and Taco would spend at least 8 months of the year with his “camp family”.
Toby was preceded in death by his parents, second wife, and one sister Melvina “Mina” Paul.
Friends will be invited to a Celebration of Life on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at the Idlewood Family Campground from 11am – 2pm. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.
