William “Bill” Robert Campbell, 73, of Blackwell
William “Bill” Robert Campbell, 73, of Blackwell, passed away on Tuesday January 21, 2025, in his home.
He was born June 14, 1951, in Wellsboro, to Roderick Douglas and Betty Jane (Spencer) Campbell. Bill graduated from Wellsboro Area High Schol in the class of “1969”. He played small fry and varsity football, was a member of the wrestling team and the track team where he ran the 100 yard dash, the 440, and the mile relay team. He was proud to have earned his varsity letter in all three sports. After high school, Bill served his country in the US Coast Guard, stationed in Mobile, Alabama. In 1978, William graduated from Alfred Agriculture and Technical College in Alfred, NY where he had been a member of the VA club, a stage hand with the play Godspell, and a projectionist on movie night. Later he ran the projector at the Arcadia and Y Drive In in Wellsboro.
Bill chose baking as a career, working in numerous bakeries in management and as head baker. His niece and nephew (Keely and Ty Gambler) famously said: “It’s not just bread, it’s Uncle Bill’s bread”.
Bill is survived by his siblings: Douglas Campbell (Beverly), Sandi Losinger (Pete), Connie Christley (Loren), Bettie Bader (David), and Susan Gambler (Edward); his many nieces and nephews by whom he was much loved; his faithful companion M.E.L. the cat; and many friends. Bill was very family oriented and enjoyed all the functions he was able to attend. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In accordance with his wishes, his arrangements have been entrusted to the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home 139 Main Street Wellsboro, PA 16901.
