2024-25 Penn College Spotlight on Sports for Jan. 19

Penn College women continue to roll on court
For the second time this season, the Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s basketball team put together a five-game win streak, and, after a 3-0 week, stood alone in second place in the United East Conference standings.
This Saturday, the college’s archery team opens its season at the Easton Collegiate Tournament in Manheim. A preview will be forthcoming.
Women’s Basketball
Penn College outscored first-time foe Rosemont College in every quarter on Tuesday en route to a 79-21 UE win. Rachel Teats of Middleburg led the Wildcats with 16 points, and Keeley Baker of Lewisburg came off the bench to score 13 points and grab seven rebounds.
On Thursday, Penn College upped its UE win streak to four with a 76-57 home win over Penn State Berks as Lexi Troup of Huntingdon connected on 6 of 10 3-point shots and scored a game-high 20 points to pace the offense.
At home with first-time opponent Cedar Crest College on Saturday, the Wildcats recorded their fifth straight UE win 64-56. Emily Pardee of Williamsport paced the offense with 16 points, Gigi Parlante of Williamsport scored 15 points and led the team with 13 rebounds (her 11th double-double), and Teats scored 14.

Men’s Basketball
On Tuesday, Penn College snapped a three-game losing streak with a hard-fought 77-76 United East men’s basketball win at Rosemont College.
With the score tied at 68 and 2:53 remaining, the Wildcats scored the next five points as Julien Leveille of Maplewood, New Jersey, hit a foul shot and Gavin Barrett of Roselle, New Jersey, and DJ Smith III, of Dallastown, added field goals to put their team ahead for good. Livingston Cross of Union, New Jersey, recorded his 14th double-double of the season with 23 points and 15 rebounds, while Barrett ended with 15 points and nine assists, and Smith tacked on 13 points.
Hosting first-time foe Notre Dame (Md.) University on Saturday, the Wildcats lost 84-78. Cross led the offense with 17 points and Levellie added 16.

Wrestling
Saturday night in the NY-PA Challenge at New York University, Penn College finished 2-1 and improved to 6-1 in duals for the season. The Wildcats topped Merchant Marine, 39-12, and Hunter College, 54-5, before losing to host NYU, 36-14.
Individually,Carter Davis of York at 165 pounds, Nicholas Woodruff of Wyalusing at 197 and Nicholai Brotzman of Marietta at 285 all went unbeaten in their three bouts. Blake Dergham of Slatington (133), Isaac McGregor of Northumberland (141) and Travis Green (174) of Manchester, Maryland, ended 2-1.
Also, Brotzman, a sophomore, was named AMCC Wrestler of the Week for Jan. 5-11, posting a 3-0 record to help lead the Wildcats to an undefeated Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference dual record. He pinned all three opponents in the first period, accumulating just 7:02 minutes of mat time.
