Barbara B. Kirby, 79, of Coudersport, passed from this life peacefully on Monday, December 16, 2024 at Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport.

She was born April 24, 1945 in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of Anthony and Frances (Miller) Buto. She attended Lourdes Academy and then St. Bonaventure University where she obtained her Bachelor’s in Education.   On August 3, 1968, she married Donald N. Kirby, Jr. and relocated to Coudersport.  She taught English at the Coudersport Area Jr. – Sr. High School for over 30 years.  One of her greatest senses of accomplishment was helping her students learn. 

Barbara took immense joy in her family.   In addition to her devoted husband of 56 years, Donald, she is survived by her daughter, Christa (Daniel) Schott, grandchildren, Olivia A. Schott and Alexander D. Schott, one brother, Dr. Anthony J. (Betty) Buto, one sister, Angela (Jack) Zay, and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her step-father, Paul Morabith. 

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 203 Arnold Ave., Port Allegany.  A Funeral Mass will be held immediately thereafter with the Rev. Joseph Dougherty, Pastor, as celebrant.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Coudersport Public Library, 502 Park Ave., Coudersport, PA 16915 or to the Coudersport Ambulance Association ,122 E 2nd Street, Coudersport, PA 16915.
