Richard B. “Dick” Straub, 86, of Grandview Road, St. Marys, PA.
Richard B. “Dick” Straub, 86, of Grandview Road, St. Marys, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Penn Highlands Jefferson Manor, following a brief illness.
He was born on July 6, 1938 in St. Marys, a son of the late Frank and Marguerite Bender Straub.
On September 9, 1961, at Queen of the World Church, he married the late Catherine “Kitty” Conroy Straub, who preceded him in death on August 11, 2016. Together they were blessed with more than 54 years of love and marriage.
Dick was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1956, where he enjoyed playing on the basketball team. He was a lifelong member of Queen of the World Church, where he also served as an usher for many years. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1959, and retired from Nicklas Insurance Agency after more than 52 years of service. Always community minded, Dick was a longtime member of the Crystal Fire Department and the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail, having served both as Past President. He was also a faithful volunteer for the United Way, and was always willing to help anyone in need.
In his free time, Dick could often be found hunting, fishing, and throwing horseshoes with his friends. He also loved bowling and playing cards. His one true passion was Straub Bear Run camp on West Creek Road, which he visited daily following his retirement. He loved nothing more than gathering with his family and friends at camp, enjoying a nice cold Straub Light.
He is survived by four children; Kevin Straub of St. Marys, Debi (Jim) Kunes of Berlin, PA, Pam (Jim) O’Connor of Virginia Beach, VA, and Rick (Toni) Straub of St. Marys, and by his 12 beloved grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister; Mary Lee Bankovic of St. Marys, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Dick was preceded in death by a brother; Frank Straub, a sister; Gretchen Smith, a daughter; Sharon Straub, a granddaughter; Savannah Straub, and a daughter in-law; Betty Straub.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard B. “Dick” Straub will be celebrated on Monday, December 2, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Queen of the World Church, 134 Queens Road, St. Marys, PA with Fr. Jeffery Noble, Pastor, celebrant.
Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Serviceman’s Burial Detail
Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Sunday, December 1, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
