Gregory C. Barrera, 67, of Rt. 46 in Smethport, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2024, at his residence with his wife at his side.

Born in San Gabriel, CA on June 21, 1957, he was a son of Raymond Barrera, Sr., of San Gabriel, CA and the late Vivian (Candela) Barrera.

He was a 1975 graduate of San Gabriel High School.

On June 28, 1978, he joined the United States Army. He spent his four years as a Firefighter, and Food Service Specialist. He was honorably discharged on June 27, 1981.

On September 26, 1998, in Big Bear Lake CA, he married Toni Rae (Lester) Barrera, who survives.

After the service Greg worked as a fireman in Yuma AZ, he later worked construction with his father and did computer work. He moved to Smethport in 2014 and worked at the Career Center and Pathstones.

Greg was a member of the VFW in Smethport, and he loved to golf.

Surviving in addition to his wife Toni of more than 30 years, is one daughter, Casey Barrera, of Indianapolis IN, three step sons, Joshua Carlson, of Pheonix AZ,  Robert Galen Carlson, of Big Bear City CA, and William Everet Carlson, of Redlands CA, three grandchildren, Zakkary Levertt, Jaiden Trevino, and Silius Barrera-Wethington, seven step grandchildren, Marina Carlson, Ryan Carlson, Raelyn Carlson, Rhiannon Carlson, Scarlett Carlson, William Carlson, and Nathan Carlson, three step great-grandchildren, Wade, Oliver, and Adalyn, two sisters, Cindy Martinez, and Patty George, one brother, Raymond Barrera Jr, his mother-in-law, Frances E. Lester, one brother-in-law, Scott Lester, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, one son, Gregory Barrera Jr., and one brother Milton Barrera, and his father-in-law Galen Lester.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in California.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.
