Robert Ellis Martin, 82, of Galeton, PA
Robert Ellis Martin, 82, of Galeton, PA, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at his home. Born on August 9, 1942 in Rochester, NY, he was a son of the late Robert L. and Inez (Cleveland) Martin.
He was 1960 graduate of Galeton High School, attended and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Lycoming College, and then served in the PA National Guard as a truck driver and medic.
On October 9, 1966, he married the former Donna Hinkley, who preceded him in death in 2020. Bob and Donna co-owned and operated Martin’s General Store in Galeton for many years.
He was a member of the Goodyear Hose Company and the Gale Hose Ambulance Company from 1962 until the present. He also served as the Captain and President of the Gale Hose Ambulance Company in the 1960’s and 1970’s.
Bob was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Galeton, was a member, administrator and held the Pilgrim Degree at the Galeton Loyal Order of the Moose #826, was a social member of the Galeton V.F.W., and served on the Galeton Area School District Board for several years.
Bob was also the current chairman of the Galeton Firemen’s Relief Association. Donna and Bob were also instrumental in resurrecting the Galeton Moose financially. They both spent many hours making friends and moving the Moose in a positive direction. The Moose family was instrumental in giving back much pleasure, especially to Bob, in the past few years. He was an Elton John fan and enjoyed hunting, especially turkey, and fishing.
Galeton is a community where Donna and Bob were raised and lived for most of their years. Thank you to everyone that watched over them.
Surviving are a son, Justin (Jalaine) Martin of Manassas, VA, a sister, Susan Hanson, Rome, NY; and two nieces. In addition to his parents and wife, Donna, Bob was predeceased by a son, Timothy Martin. A Joint Memorial Service will be held for Bob and Donna on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at the First Presbyterian Church in Galeton. Friends may call from 10:00am to 11:00am with the Memorial Service following at 11:00am with the Rev. Fred Garrison officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Goodyear Hose Company in memory of Timothy Martin. Interment will be made in Germania Cemetery.
