Gordon Leary Vogt, Jr., 65, of Emporium, PA
Gordon Leary Vogt, Jr., 65, of Emporium, PA passed away at his residence on Tuesday morning (November 12, 2024). He was born September 29, 1959 in Tonawanda, New York (outside of Buffalo), and is the eldest son of Gordon Leary Vogt Sr. and Mary Krause Vogt.
Gordon graduated from Marcos de Niza High School in Tempe, Arizona, in 1977 and then briefly attended Mesa Community College. He often reminisced about “driving fast” down the highway with Led Zeppelin blaring in the car with his friends, missing the ease of his younger days. He left community college to pursue large-scale corporate manufacturing of explosives and large machinery for 30 years, where he gained lifelong friendships as well. Building large machines, robots, and rockets were part of Gordon’s favorite pastimes as he was a curious learner. In a perfect world, Gordon wished to fly planes – though his tall 6’9” stature had other plans and kept him from fitting in the cockpit.
He loved photography, crossword puzzles, curly fries, guitar playing, and drawing his comics of “Beezer”, an outdoorsman who lacked all common sense. Known as a “gentle giant” to his friends and family, Gordon was not perfect but always paid attention to detail. He loved to connect over sarcastic banter and had a big belly laugh. When in doubt, Gordon enjoyed a good Monty Python joke, Law and Order, and the History Channel. He preferred his rock music loud and his time in nature quiet, and always stole Reese’s out of his daughter’s Halloween candy basket when she wasn’t looking. His friends and family miss him already.
Gordon is survived by his daughter, Megan Vogt, Tallahassee, FL; sister, Tracey V. Albro (Trevor, Sr.), Purcellville, VA; sister, Genny Tilton (Chris), Coudersport, PA; brother, Michael Sheldon Vogt (Shelly), Roulette, PA; sister, Barbara Aldridge (Dustin), Edgewater, MD; several nieces and nephews; Brianne Vogt, Heather Albro, Trevor Albro, Jr., Renee Bittorf, and Nathan Aldridge.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother.
There will be No Visitation. A Memorial will be held at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Thursday (November 21, 2024) at 11:00 AM with Bob Spaeth officiating.
