Samuel Edward Long, III
Samuel Edward Long, III passed away peacefully at home on October 30, 2024, surrounded by his wife Cindy and his two children, daughter, Molly (Richard) Long-Meddaugh and son, George (Lani) Sherman and grandsons, Tyler (Kate) Sherman, and great-grandson, Dillon Sherman.
Sam is also survived by two other grandsons, David Neff and Adam Neff. He is also survived by two children from a previous marriage: Daughters, Pamela Long and Lisa Long, and granddaughter, Gretchen Devine. Sam was preceded in death by beloved grandson, Mjoelnr Mayer, and granddaughter, Jeanie Devine.Sam was born on March 6, 1939, son of the late Forrest and Esther Long.
He is survived by a twin sister, Sandy (Jay) Cleveland and a niece, Laura (Miles) Cleveland Datesman, and a nephew, Jay (Mary) Cleveland, Jr. Sam is also survived by a brother-in-law, James (Diane) Byerly and a cousin, Karen Byerly Nicholson.
Sam is also survived by many other nieces and nephews: Sidney and Addy Datesman; TJ, Garrett, and Charlote Cleveland; Christopher Byerly (AJ Brandt), Henry and Nola Byerly, also John and Allen Byerly. Sam was preceded in death by a brother, Forrest (Helga) Long.
Sam lived in Wyomissing until the eleventh grade when Sam’s family moved to Camp Hill, where he graduated from Camp Hill High School. He attended York College and the Citadel, and then joined the Army Security Agency.
After his completion of his tour of duty, he had an accomplished financial career: Commonwealth National Bank; Walston & Company; manager of WH Newbold & Son in Camp Hill; mutual funds manager of Dauphin Deposit Bank in Harrisburg, where he managed Marketvest Mutual Funds and ranked in the top 10% of National Mutual Fund Managers; Dauphin Deposit Bank was eventually acquired by First Maryland Bank where he continued to manage the Marketvest Mutual Fund until his retirement.
Having great love for his children, Sam and his family spent most weekends in the Morris and the Oregon Hill area riding motorcycles, four wheelers, snowmobiles, skiing, and just smelling the roses. Sam and Cindy retired to the area where they embraced the community.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Christ Church, 12880 US-6, Wellsboro, PA 16901.
