Janice E. Woodkirk “faithful in Christ”
Janice E. Woodkirk, 90, of Shinglehouse, passed from the loving care of her family into the arms of her Lord and Savior, on Friday, October 25, 2024, in the Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY.
Born on Thursday, July 26, 1934 in Myrtle, she was a daughter of Howard J. and Doris L. Haynes Gustin. On August 9, 1953 in Shinglehouse, she married Charles L. Woodkirk, who passed away on August 3, 1998. On June 10, 2006, she married Randall “Jack” Pease, who passed away on June 30, 2022.
Janice was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School, Class of 1953. She was employed as a nurse’s aide for the former Hewitt Manor Nursing Home in Shinglehouse, retiring in the 1970’s. For many years she served as a clerk on the Shinglehouse Election Board.
Janice spent five years in Africa as a missionary for the Zion Fellowship and also spent three months in India at a girl’s orphanage as a missionary.
At one time Janice was a member of Zion Christian Assembly in Ulysses. She had attended the First Baptist Church in Shinglehouse for many years. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and counted cross stitch. She most especially loved spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are three children, Deborah K. (Ronald) Stowe of Pavillion, NY, Darlene S. (Michael) Derrick of Albuquerque, NM, and Howard N. Woodkirk of Shinglehouse; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson to be born in November; two brothers, Philip J. (Linda) Gustin of Long Beach, CA and Ronald C. (Elizabeth) Gustin of Olean, NY; a sister, Vivien K. (Phillip) Frair of Shinglehouse; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Janice was predeceased by a brother, Earl D. Gustin; and a sister, Geraldine L. Babcock.
Family and friends may call from 11am to 1pm on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Myrtle Gospel Tabernacle, 1127 PA 44, Shinglehouse, where funeral services will follow at 1pm with Alan Mertsock, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Myrtle Cemetery, Shinglehouse.

Janice entrusted her care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
