Christine Ann Hartnett, 83, of Warren, PA, died on Wednesday October 29, 2025, at AHN St. Vincent Hospital, Erie, PA. A complete obituary will be published when it’s available. The Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home Inc., has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.

Skywalk and trail will reopen temporarily again for 2026 fall foliage

Mount Jewett, PA – The Skywalk at Kinzua Bridge State Park in the Pennsylvania Wilds will once again temporarily close for an ongoing multi-year rehabilitation and renovation project, with its last day open on October 31, 2025. The Skywalk and Kinzua Valley Trail below will be restricted from visitation. However, the state park itself, visitor center, educational exhibits and PA Wilds Conservation Shop retail location will remain open throughout the renovations.

The Kinzua Skywalk was temporarily reopened from August 8 to October 31, 2025, by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) to allow visitors the chance to see the famous fall foliage from this unique vantage point.

Port Allegany – Dreda Smithmyer, 61, of Roulette, passed away on Monday (October 27, 2025) at her home in Roulette.

She was born March 12, 1964 in Port Allegany, the daughter of Leo G. and Dolores Jean (Hesser) Smithmyer.

Miss. Smithmyer was employed at the Potter Pak in Roulette for many years, she also was a bartender working at several local bars. She enjoyed her time with friends and family, fishing and loved her cats and dogs.

Pennsylvania College of Technology soccer teams go into Saturday’s United East Conference quarterfinal matches with similar goals — win and move on.

The third-seeded women (14-2-2 overall and 7-1 in the UE) host sixth-seeded Penn State Abington (6-9-2/4-4) at 1:30 p.m., while the fifth-seeded men’s team (9-6-2/4-2-2) travels to fourth-seeded Notre Dame (Md.) University (4-6-4/4-2-2) for a noon encounter.

Saturday’s winners advance to the conference semifinals, next Tuesday for the women and Wednesday for the men. Championship matches for both the men and women are set for a week from Saturday.

When the Pennsylvania College of Technology cross-country teams ran in the United East Conference preview race on Sept. 12, it was just their second meet of the season as the two-time defending champion men finished second in an 11-team field and the women placed fifth among 10.

Since then, they’ve had three more competitive outings, including last Friday when eight members of the men’s team and six women posted either their personal or season-best times in their respective 8K and 6K races, and they appear to be peaking at just the right time going into this Saturday’s conference championships hosted by Penn State Brandywine.

The men run at 11 a.m., with the women following at noon.

The Deane Center’s free Golden Afternoons program on Veterans Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. will honor military veterans of the United States Armed Forces and active military personnel with a sing-a-long

Veterans Day is a federal holiday observed annually in the United States on Nov.11.

The Golden Afternoons program is free and open to adults, 55 and older. It will be in the lobby at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro. Refreshments will be provided. 

The Wellsboro Community Concert Association is presenting the third concert of its 2025-2026 season for subscribers and the public at 7:30 p.m. next Friday, Nov. 7 in the Coolidge Theatre at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro. Featured will be the popular band Driftwood of Binghamton, N.Y.   

Driftwood will also perform a second concert for the public next Saturday, Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Coolidge Theatre. Veterans are being given a special half-price ticket discount on Saturday only. Theater seating is still available.

There will be room for dancing at both.

The other night, I went into the bedroom of the house I was staying in and found my dog on the bed holding something between her front paws. Upon closer inspection —and to my horror —I realized she had found a glue mouse trap, which was stuck to her feet and the bed. Luckily, it wasn’t stuck to her face too. As I tried to free her, I also got caught up in the sticky mess. Needless to say, I wasn’t happy, but it made me think.

Parking will be available at lots closest to Repchick Family (baseball) field and West Washington Street and the softball field, and Campus Drive. Sidewalks are available between the parking and Trunk-or-Treat area, where student organizations will be handing out treats. Visitors are encouraged to use the parking lots and not park on the road. In the event of rain, the event will be held on the first floor of the Frame-Westerberg Commons on campus.

There will be special Committee of the Whole at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 5, and Tuesday, November 25.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (October 28) – The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) announced today that public courtesy boat docks located within the marina basin at Walnut Creek Marina, Erie County, are being removed in preparation for winter. 

The process of dock removal is expected to last several days, and once completed, the marina basin will be open to public fishing.

Weather permitting, the public courtesy boat docks and rental slips at the marina are expected to be reinstalled in early May 2026.

HARRISBURG – A group of state lawmakers, many of whom are also dads, are calling on House Democrats and Gov. Josh Shapiro to do the right thing and act now to protect the rights of all the Commonwealth’s daughters to compete on a level playing field.

Authors of the “Dads Defending Daughters” bill – including Reps. Clint Owlett (R-Tioga/Bradford), Eric Davanzo (R-Westmoreland), Joe D’Orsie (R-York), Jonathan Fritz (R-Susquehanna/Wayne) and Joe Hamm (R-Lycoming/Sullivan) – brought together fellow lawmakers, students and parents for a Capitol press conference Wednesday to advocate for the legislation that would stop biological males from competing in women’s sports.

Speakers rallying support for the bill included Frank Murphy, chair of Athletes for America Coalition; Lily Williams, former Hempfield School District (Lancaster County) student athlete; and Paula Scanlan, senior fellow at the American Principles Project and former Division 1 swimmer.

For households that rely on this assistance, that means an entire month without the benefits they depend on to buy food.

At the same time, LIHEAP, which helps families with heating costs, is delayed until December 3rd. As temperatures drop, families are being forced to make impossible choices — heat or food, bills or groceries.

Cecelia Elizabeth “Betty” Agosti, 85, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of Cherry Road, Kersey, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 28, 2025. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and under the direction of Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc.

The Community Education Center’s Leadership Elk and Cameron program’s (LEC) monthly session focused on economic development, environment & tourism in Cameron County. The day started at Embassy Powdered Metals with a tour of the facility.  After Embassy, they traveled to Emporium Hardwoods for a tour of their facility.  The participants then headed to Sarah Jane’s Art Studio where she gave a brief history of her studio and her own story of how she became a Cameron County resident.  While at Sarah Jane’s Art Studio the group enjoyed a delicious lunch from Uptown Girls sponsored by Emporium Hardwoods.  After lunch the group heard a presentation from The PA Wilds Center for Entrepreneurship & The Lumber Heritage Region.

In 2022, NY State passed the Companion Animal Care Standards Act based on the Association of Shelter Veterinarians’ Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters. Cattaraugus County is not a wealthy area, and while they do offer grants, New York State is not funding the project.

Ceres Township Board of Supervisors meeting date is changed to, Tuesday,  November 11, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. due to voting taking place on regularly scheduled date. 

Proposed adoption of Ordinance #35 giving Penn Dot authority to act on the Township’s behalf for the Delmar Bridge removal project will take place at the November 11, 2025 meeting instead of the prior advertised date of November 4, 2025.  The ordinance will give PennDOT authority  to obtain Rights-of-way, any PUC, or other permits required. The ordinance will give Supervisor Chairman, Anthony Plants, authority to sign the agreement with PennDot and states that 100% of the funding for removal of the DelMar Bridge will be funded with Pennsylvania state funds.
