Philip A. Pantano of Seneca Ave. passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025 at the Olean General Hospital.
Flip was born April 4, 1953 in Olean and was the son of Vincent J. and Helen Anna Bender Pantano. On July 20, 1982 in Austin, TX he married Barbara A. Tassin who survives.
Flip was a 1971 graduate of Hinsdale High School. He worked for North Gale Buick Dealership as a Auto Repair GM Tech. Flip then moved to Huston, TX and worked for Astro AMC Dealership for about a year returning to Olean and working for John Hardy Chevy. He then moved back to Austin as a GM Tech moving back to Olean to work at Bokman’s from 1983 to 1995 then at Weatherall Chevy in Cuba.
Cameron County, in partnership with North Central Regional Planning and Development Commission, the Northern Tier Community Action Corporation, and Emporium Borough, has received funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Brownfields Program to assist with the reuse of previously used properties in Cameron, Clearfield, and Potter Counties. The funding is being used to identify and prioritize sites, conduct environmental site assessments and create site reuse plans for priority sites. Cameron County has engaged a consultant team, led by Montrose Environmental, to implement the project.
A market study is under way, which will inform project priorities and help to identify reuse opportunities throughout the three-county study area. The Project aims to inform and engage with communities in the region transparently and equitably. Cameron County and project partners invite community members and stakeholders to learn about the project and share your perspective.
Due to critically low water levels in their Reservoir, the Town of Ripley has officially declared a State of Emergency. Mandatory Water Conservation Order is in place for all commercial and residential customers of Ripley Water District. Reservoir levels continue to decline. Water supplied to Ripley Water District customers remains safe to drink. However, bottled water donations are being requested from local retailers to help reduce household water use and preserve the limited Reservoir supply.
Linda Lee Shufesky, 65, of 314 Spruce Street, St. Marys, passed away unexpectedly Monday, October 13, 2025 at Penn Highlands DuBois. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and under the direction of Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc.
Raising money for worthy causes can be daunting, but there is no reason that it cannot be fun! BAPL is putting the ‘fun’ back into its fundraising efforts this October.
The library is hosting a month-long raffle for six beautiful granny square afghans. The afghans are the result of a community-inspired project that spanned the summer, with hundreds of granny squares donated by individuals throughout Bradford. BAPL is grateful to the following ladies who donated their time and talents to stitch each square into a blanket: Marcia Green, Honami Iwasaki, Beth Price, and Lynne Hobbs. Published in July by Arcadia Publishing/The History Press, Lisa Olszak Zumstein’s book The Brady’s Bend Flood of 1980: Tragedy in Western Pennsylvania will be the focus of a series of upcoming author talks at three local venues. The Bradford Area Public Library (BAPL) and the Friends of Hanley Library are partnering to host an Author Visit with Zumstein, who will share the history and research behind her publication.
Edward H. Kuntz, 90, a lifetime resident of St. Marys, passed away Monday, October 13, 2025 at his residence, with his family by his side.
He was born January 10, 1935 and was the seventh son of ten children to the late John A. and Marie Fox Kuntz.
He married his loving wife of sixty-one years, Carol A. Sterbank, on May 5, 1962 in Queen of the World Church. She preceded him in death on April 27, 2024.
Francis Robert “Bob” Fisher, age 84, of Wellsboro, PA, died on Monday, October 6, 2025.
He was born on November 21, 1940 on Dantz Run Road, Wellsboro, Pa. to Daniel and Agnes (Schultz) Fisher. He graduated from Wellsboro High School and then served in the United States Army, traveling overseas as a heavy equipment operator. In 1964 Bob married Sherry Fillmore, who survives.

She was a graduate of the Bradford Area High School.
On November 9, 1963 in Smethport; she married Robert “Hoppy” Hopkins who preceded her in death on May 29, 2016.
She was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church. She was a former member of the Marche Club Auxiliary and the Red Hat Ladies. She was also a former volunteer with the BRMC Auxiliary. Peggy loved sending cards to and receiving cards in the mail from friends and family.

10/14/2025 UPDATE: Due to inclement weather yesterday, the Route 14 detour will begin today, Tuesday, October 14, 2025 and will end on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised a bridge replacement project continues on Route 14 in Trout Run, Lycoming County.
NEW: Between Tuesday, October 14, 2025 and Tuesday, October 28, 2025, Route 14 will be closed between the Route 15 north exit ramp (Exit 148) and Trout Run Mountain Road (Route 1002) in Lewis Township, while the contractor, Rylind Construction Company, Inc., begins construction of the bridge approaches and the removal of the temporary connector and traffic signals.
The following detours will be in place through October 28.
BRADFORD, Pa (October 10, 2025)– Journey Health System (JHS) and their affiliates held their annual organizational Board meeting on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the main JHS office located in Bradford, Pennsylvania. Over 50 individuals from each agency’s Board, executive team and guests gathered remotely and in-person for the election of officers and to review the fiscal year. Since this marks the 10th Anniversary of JHS, the theme of this year’s meeting was “A Decade of Partnerships & Progress”.
Smethport – Karen J. Bigley, 77, of Smethport, formerly of Eldred, passed away Thursday (October 9, 2025) at Lakeview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Smethport.
She was born April 26, 1948 in Olean, NY, the daughter of George and Iris (Clyde) Hardes.
Karen was a 1965 graduate of Otto Eldred High School and attended nursing school.
She worked as a packer at Pierce Glass Company, now Ardagh Group, in Port Allegany, PA. She was employed there for 45 years.
Karen enjoyed spending time with her family, crafting, painting, crocheting, and paper quilling.
Mary E. Zurcher, 71, of Warren, PA., died Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Rouse Home, after an extended illness. She was born March 23, 1954, in Warren, PA. Mary was the daughter of Bruce and Doris Ruth Wolven Harding. She was a 1972 graduate of Warren Area High School. She was employed as a receptionist with Warren Medical Group for 13 years, retiring in 2017.
Valren E. Culp, age 88, of Wellsboro, PA, died on Friday, October 10, 2025. He was born on February 14, 1937 in Ohio, a son of the late Paine and Evelyn (Wiemer) Culp, was married to the late Dorothea “Dot” (Baker) Culp and served in the US Army.
Val is survived by two sisters-in-law: Jean Culp and Rosalind Culp both of Galeton, PA, and “bonus children” William Baker of Gold, PA, Kathlen (Albert) Talada of Elmira, NY, Robert (Pam) Baker of Scio, NY, Brenda Badmone of Wellsboro, PA, Johanna (John) Shelmire of Wellsboro, PA, Dorothea (Michael) Shuster of Wellsboro, PA, Alice Smith of Sutton WV.
He was predeceased by four brothers: Paine Culp, Kenneth Culp, Aaron Culp, Ted Culp and a son: John Baker.

Mary Catherine BRADSTREET, 90, of Andover, NY, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. She spent her last five years living with Anne and Terry McCormick in Andover and was a very integral part of their family life.
Born September 8, 1935, in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of Gerald J. and Fredericka B. “Fritzi” Casey. A graduate of Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA, she earned a BA in Education from Marywood College in 1957.
Madison Fillhart and Aiden Bliss were named Queen and King of the 2025 Homecoming during a half-time ceremony held Saturday afternoon during the Gator-Terror football game held at Gator Field.
Madison is the daughter of Justin and Christine Fillhart of Roulette.
Aiden is the son of Brandon and Michelle Bliss of Port Allegany.
The two, along with their court – Tristan Kiser, Ethan Tarbox, Nick Wilfong, Jarrod Funk, Isla Lehmeir, Lily Lehmeir, Madison Errick, and Jenna Renner – reigned over the Senior High Homecoming Dance held Saturday night at the school.
The theme for this year’s Homecoming was Rio de Janeiro. Homecoming was sponsored by the Student Council.
The Port Allegany Rotary Club welcomed Journey Wilmoth and Madison Errick to their weekly meeting held Thursday at Moose Lodge #460. Journey is the daughter of Tammy Vascooter and Carl Wilmoth. She has a brother, Jett Ruding. She is a member of the Port United Soccer and Bocce Ball teams, she is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Varsity Club and Drama Club. Journey is an avid reader and participates in the Reading Competitions. She enjoys fishing and pickleball. She also works at Zitomedia in Coudersport. Journey is planning to go to college to study psychology. She was introduced to the club by Charlie Cox. Madison is the daughter of Mark Errick and Cathy Errick. She has a sister, Emily, and a brother, Edward. Mady plays volleyball, basketball and softball. She serves as captain for both volleyball and softball. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Varsity Club. Mady plans to go to college to study Family and Child Development. She was introduced to the club by Anna Fair.
Last week in review: Although the women’s soccer team’s regular-season unbeaten string ended, two of its players were among four Wildcats who were awarded weekly honors by the United East Conference.
Also, head baseball coach Chris Howard was announced as one of 14 members of the Class of 2025 who will be inducted into the West Branch Valley Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in November. In 18 seasons at the helm of the Wildcats, Howard’s teams have posted a 377-283 won-loss record, winning three conference championships, finishing second four times and finishing third twice.

Last week’s hometown highlights: Hosting defending United East champ and this year’s favorite to repeat Penn State Harrisburg on Tuesday, the Wildcats saw their regular-season unbeaten streak end at 36 in a defensive nail-biter that saw goalie Morgan Solano, of Shavertown, make 10 saves. Penn College’s last regular-season loss came on Sept. 30, 2023, at Penn State Harrisburg, also by a 1-0 score. The streak included 28 wins and eight draws.
