Donald Wade Garland, 81, of Shinglehouse, passed away in the comfort of his home on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
Family and friends may call from 4pm to 7pm on Friday at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse and from 10am to 11am on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at the Portville Baptist Church, Temple Street, Portville, NY, where funeral services will follow at 11am.

Michael J. GILLIGAN, 77, of Harrison Valley, PA
Michael J. GILLIGAN, 77, of Harrison Valley, PA, died Sunday, October 6, 2024 in his home. Born June 7, 1947, in Philadelphia, he was the son of John Francis and Maria Regina O’Hanlan Gilligan. On May 29, 1967, in Warren County, NC, he married the former Barbara L. Beideman, who survives.
A Vietnam War Veteran, he served honorably with the U.S. Air Force from 1965 – 1969. He was employed by Morris Iron and Steel Co. in Philadelphia, WW Disposal in Harrison Valley, and Northern Light Candles in Wellsville, NY. Mike was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Westfield, Teamsters Union, American Legion Post #831 in Campbelltown, and served as a Scoutmaster for Troop #463 in Philadelphia.
United Methodist Church Hosting Speaker
The United Methodist Church of Smethport will be hosting speaker Susan Evans, cancer survivor and author of “Don’t Write the Obituary Yet”, on Thursday, October 10th at 6:30 PM. She will be speaking about her journey and facing challenges with hope and humor. The event is open to the public and refreshments will be served.

Spirit Week Begins At Port Allegany High School
Spirit Week begins at Port Allegany High School as the Student Council prepares for Homecoming 2024. Monday will be pajama pant day; Tuesday is Mr. Van Gorden Day; Wednesday is Twin Day; Thursday is Wacky Tourist Day and Friday is Orange and Black Day. The annual Homecoming Parade will be held Friday at 6 p.m. with lineup at 5 p.m. The parade route will go from Pearl to Mill, down Main Street to Arnold Avenue to the football field parking lot. Following the parade is a bonfire. The Junior High Homecoming Dance will be held in the auxiliary gym from 7:00 – 9:30 p..m. Homecoming activities on Saturday include the PAHS Gators vs. Kane Wolves football game with kick off at 1:30 p.m. Introduction of the court and announcement of the King and Queen will take place during a half-time ceremony. The Senior High Homecoming Dance will begin at 7 p.m. with the crowning of the King and Queen at 7:30 p.m. Parents and other guests may attend the crowning. The dance will end at 10:00 p.m.

Gustave W. “Gus” Wolf, 86, formerly of St. Marys and Allison Park, PA, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2024, in Gibsonia, PA, following an illness of the past few months
He was born on March 21, 1938 in St. Marys, a son of the late Gustave J. and Helen E. Valentine Wolf.
Gus was a graduate of St. Vincent College and received his Master’s degree from Penn State University. He worked at St. Marys Area High School and St. Francis College as a German teacher and later worked as a Special Needs Counselor for the Allegheny County Intermediate Unit 5. He was a member of the St. Marys Elks Club. He also worked for Allegheny County as a Nursing Home Ombudsman. In his free time, Gus enjoyed golfing, bowling, cooking and beach vacations.

Bert Michael Obleski, 94, of Roulette, PA
Bert Michael Obleski, 94, of Roulette, PA, entered eternal rest Friday (October 4, 2024). His death at 94 years young culminates an industrious and joyous life of devotion and service as a dedicated father to his family and small town community.
Bert was born September 19, 1930 to Michael and Mary (Prochko) Obleski in Laninger Creek, Roulette Twp., Potter County, PA.
He was a student of Roulette Schools and High School. Following school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1946 and proudly served as a Seaman 1st Class and was honorably discharged from the Navy on the 26th day of December, 1949.

Evelyn C. Green, 77, of Wake Forest, NC and formerly of Berwind Street, St. Marys, passed away Monday, September 30, 2024 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, NC.
She was born October 23, 1946 in Ridgway, daughter of the late William F. and Sara Mitchell Platt. She was a lifelong resident of the area before moving to North Carolina to be closer with her son, Keith. Evelyn was a graduate of Ridgway High School, Class of 1964. She was employed at Keystone Carbon and later retired from Penn Highlands Elk after twenty nine years with the hospital.
On August 7, 1971, in St. Marys, she married the late Eugene “Tiger” H. Green, who preceded her in death on August 31, 2019.

C. Louise McLaughlin, 89, of Custer City, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at the Bradford Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Born December 31, 1934, in Bradford, she was a daughter of the late Hugh and Esther L. (Wolfgang) Coy. She was a 1952 graduate of Bradford Area High School.
On September 23, 1978 in Limestone NY, she married Patrick H. McLaughlin who preceded her in death on November 25, 2017.
Daniel J. Cowburn, 56, of Coudersport, PA
Daniel J. Cowburn, 56, of Coudersport, passed away Friday, October 4, 2024, at Olean General Hospital. Dan was born on June 1, 1968, in Wellsboro, the son of the late Katherine (Matteson) “Mimi” MacCartney and his father figure Richard “Poppy” Matteson.
Dan was a graduate of Coudersport High School and an Army veteran. He worked for many years in the natural gas industry as an inspector. He was a star athlete and enjoyed: athletics, music, golfing, fly fishing, the outdoors, and spending time with his family. Dan was a foodie and an avid Notre Dame fan.
