Stifel Financial Wealth Management Group Donates to St. Marys Area United Way
St. Marys, PA – The St. Marys Area United Way recently received a generous $1,500 donation from Stifel O’Leary Piccolo Launer and Fledderman Wealth Management Group. This contribution will help advance the organization’s efforts to meet its $220,000 fundraising goal for the upcoming year.
The donation was accepted by United Way representatives, including Jim Ryan, Vice President; Doug Bauer, Vice President; Doug Gaffey, Corporate Campaign Chair; and Jason Gabler, board member. The Stifel team, led by John Piccolo, presented the check at their Brusselles Street office, where they’ve been serving the financial needs of Elk County and surrounding communities for over 30 years.

Law Enforcement to Conduct Impaired Driving Enforcement this Weekend
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), the Pennsylvania DUI Association, and law enforcement agencies across western Pennsylvania will team up this weekend to conduct impaired driving enforcement activities in advance of Halloween.

Sinnemahone Ultra Trail Run
The annual Sinnemahone Ultra Trail Run set for Saturday October 19. The event includes three distances from which competitors can select. The 50k and 25k routes are altered this year to avoid a conflict with the annual youth hunt. Runners will leave the Wiley Trail and traverse a new trail which links to Mowery Road.
Those selecting to run the 50k will leave Emporium starting at 7:30am and have 10 hours to complete the 50k. That event takes runners through the Elk State Forest on scenic trails including Wiley, Bucktail Path, and Chicago Springs. Volunteers will man the 6 aid stations for the event. Each aid station will have a representative from Mountaineer Search & Rescue to maintain radio contact in case of any emergencies.

Donald Wade Garland, 81, of Shinglehouse, passed away in the comfort of his home on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, after a long illness.
Born on Thursday, February 4, 1943 in Johnstown, PA, he was a son of Donald Link and Arvilla M. Gossard Garland. On December 23, 1966 in Conemaugh Grace Brethren Church in Conemaugh, PA, he married Jacqueline D. “Jacqui” Jones, who passed away on September 20, 2013.

UPMC Cole to Host Halloween Path
Coudersport, Pa., October 9, 2024 – UPMC Cole welcomes families and their trick-or-treaters to its annual Halloween Path on Sunday, Oct. 27, 1 to 3 p.m. This free event will be held outdoors, rain or shine, at UPMC Cole’s East Entrance, East 2nd St., Coudersport.
This year’s theme is “Family Game Night.” Attendees can expect special goodies from several stations.

Robert H. Carroll “B.O.B.”, 95, of Smethport, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Olean General Hospital.
He was born on October 27, 1928, in Mapleton Depot, he was a son of the late James H. Carroll and Vera Flo (Corbin) Carroll.
He was a 1946 graduate of Jeannette High School, received a Bachelor of Science from Indiana State Teachers College in Indiana, and earned a Master of Arts at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV.
On June 22, 1956, he married Shirley Woodle, who passed away on June 8, 1999.
COMMUNITY REPORT ON MEDICATION DROP BOXES
District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that the medication drop boxes located throughout McKean County continue to be used by residents. The County Detectives collect the deposits and members of the Attorney General’s Office collects them. The contents are collected and weighed at least quarterly, and the total is consistently more than 100 pounds of unused medication collected. The third quarter total (from July 11, 2024 to September 30, 2024) was 123.5 lbs. broken down as follows: From the box located at: The City of Bradford Police Department: 70 lbs.

Paula K. (Mikolajczyk) Givan, 75, of Olean, passed away Tuesday October 8, 2024 at Olean General Hospital after a brief illness.
Born on June 23, 1949, in Olean she was a daughter of Stanley and Catherine (Ruby) Mikolaczyk.
She leaves behind her children, Christina Smith; Robert Givan, Jr., and Shelli (Scott) Givan-Baker all of Olean; Four grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; 3 Sisters and Several Nieces and Nephews.
Private Services will be held by the family.
