William John Shaffer, 91, of Eldred, passed away Tuesday (October 15, 2024) at his residence, surrounded by his family.
He was born March 21, 1933 in Olean, NY, a son of Henry and Alverta (Eaton) Shaffer. On October 10, 1953, in Portville, NY, he married Carla B. Ayers, who survives.

Brenda Pascarella, lead revenue cycle coordinator, was recognized as the October 2024 BRMC Star Award winner. She has been with the organization since 2002.
“Brenda is an unsung hero of our organization by ensuring that we’re paid by submitting claims to our payers. She is responsible to monitor daily revenue cycle processes and often has to intervene to ensure that our claims are submitted in a timely manner. This helps our organization to have a guaranteed inflow of money to our organization to meet our financial responsibilities,” said her nomination. “Brenda’s work, though not typically seen by patients and staff, is crucial to provide great patient care. She is efficient, always has a smile on her face, and is always willing to go the extra mile without being asked. We’re lucky to have Brenda.”

Jeffrey T. “Jeff” Olmstead, 56, a lifelong resident of Bolivar, passed away unexpectedly in Buffalo General Hospital, Buffalo, with his loving family by his side on Saturday, October 12, 2024.Born on Tuesday, October 24, 1967 in Wellsville, he was a son of Richard G. and Frances A. Warner Olmstead.
On June 24, 2000, in Bolivar, he married the love of his life and best friend, Amy D. Claypool, who survives.

Job Announcement: Outreach and Communications Advisor
The Potter County Conservation District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Outreach and Communications Advisor. The position will be full-time (37.5 hours/week) with a probationary period of six months. The purpose of this position is to oversee the general planning, development, and direction of all communications of the District. Coordinate programs, social media, news releases, and other forms or publication to build and sustain a positive image of the District in the public. The qualified applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent, be able to obtain required clearances, and a valid driver’s license. Candidates are preferred to have a degree in an Environmental Field (Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, etc.), Communications, Public Relations, or another related field. The position involves extensive contact, both by phone and in person, with a variety of District customers and partners. The person in this position must have excellent communication skills, a pleasant disposition, be courteous, and detail oriented. Tasks will be assigned and supervised by the District Manager per program needs.

Irma P. Colacecchi, 95, of Elmira, NY, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 10, 2024. She was born on September 6, 1929 to Alberto and Maria (Anticolli) Colacecchi in Corning.
She was a graduate of Northside High School in Corning and retired from Capabilities, Inc. During her 95 years, she was a devout Catholic and a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Elmira.
Irma is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to her parents, Irma was predeceased by sisters, Hilda Colacecchi, Eva Valerio (Alfred), Ella Micheli (Joseph), Malvena Colacecchi and Doris Kent (Raymond); and brothers, Joseph (Mary) and Lido (Mary) Colacecchi.
The family would like to thank the Chemung County Nursing Facility for treating Irma like family and giving her amazing compassionate care.
A Graveside Service will be held at the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Corning on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 10:30am.
The family has entrusted her care to the Hess Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Galeton PA.
A Grizzly History of Port Allegany
You are invited to join us for a guided walking tour of…The first murder in the borough; the curious tale of Uzza Robbins; and an unsolved murder mystery. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Proceeds will go to the Port Allegany Historical Society. Tours will start at the Port Allegany Town Square between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 19. Walking tours will start every 15 minutes and cover about 5 blocks. Tours will end with a historical society presentation at Union Cemetery. Participants may also come to the Inn on Maple Street for refreshments. The event is sponsored by the Port Allegany Lions Club.
The Port Allegany High School 2024 King and Queen were announced during a half-time ceremony of the Gator-Wolves football game held Saturday at Gator Field. 2023 Homecoming King and Queen, Henry Kisler and Jenn Baxter presented footballs to Austin Hamilton and Willow Sauers signifying they were chosen King and Queen. Willow is the daughter of Eric and Janine Sauers. Austin is the son of Jim and Connie Hamilton. Spirit Week and Homecoming activities were sponsored by the PAHS Student Council.

On October 15 at 1:39 pm Port Allegany Fire Dept. was dispatched to 45 N. Pine St. for a structure fire. Roulette Fire is on standby and Coudersport Fire is dispatched for RIT. Port Fire is investigating the fire a smell of smoke is coming from the vents
Today at 0650 hours McKean County dispatch received multiple calls for a structure fire on West Corydon Street. Station 15 was dispatched along with station 6 and station 19 for tankers and station 1 for stand-by. Chief 15-10 had command. An interior search was completed and two 1-3/4″ hose lines were used to put the fire out. Fire crews were on scene for over 2 hours. The fire is under investigation by Bradford Township PD and PA State Police Fire Marshal.

Torben A. Martin, of Coudersport, passed away at birth, Friday, October 11, 2024, at UPMC-Cole, Coudersport.
He was the son of Aaron M. Martin and Jessica L. (Gentzler) Ruppert. Torben is survived by his paternal grandparents, Timothy and Kathy Martin of Coudersport; maternal grandparents, Michael Garrett and Shelia Gentzler of York; brothers: Kenneth Ruppert IV, Riley Ruppert, Peyton Ruppert, Ryder Reimold, and Wyatt Martin, and sisters, Shaylynn Ruppert and Astrid Martin.
Torben was preceded in death by a brother, Jaydyn Reimold.The family has entrusted Torben’s care with the Thomas E. Fickinger Funeral Home, 210 N. East St., Coudersport, PA 16915.
