Elizabeth A. “Liz” Geci, 93, of 74 Erie Avenue, St. Marys, PA, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Elk Haven Nursing Home.
She was born on March 11, 1931 in St. Marys, PA, a daughter of the late John and Catherine Garbic Geci.
Liz was a member of the Sacred Heart Church. She graduated from St. Marys Public High School Class of 1949, and retired on November 30, 1993 from GTE Sylvania after 27½ years of service.

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs or milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
The recalled Food Club All Purpose Flour was distributed retail stores in Ohio and New York.
Brent’s Back in the Area
Brent Addleman has joined the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission organization in early March as Marketing and Communications Coordinator.
We welcome Brent and the bang-up job he’s doing to keep the participating counties up to date on the commission’s activities. Brent worked for a period of time some years ago as editor of a Coudersport newspaper.
North Central PA Approves Business Loans in Coudersport, Benezette & St, Marys
The North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission board also approved four loans during their meeting this week.
Schatz Services LLC in St. Marys, a lawncare business, was approved for a $35,000 loan through the USDA/Microloan fund at a 5-year term at 5 percent interest. The lender, Loan Director Jennifer Hibbard said, is the Elk County Redevelopment Authority, who will be lending $25,000 toward the purchase of the equipment.
The funds will be used to purchase a mini excavator that would be used to accommodate growth and expand the business. The funding will retain four jobs and create two more.
Wildwoods Bar & Grill Inc., an existing full-service restaurant and bar in St. Marys, was approved for a $54,500 loan through the USDA/Intermediary Relending Program at a 4-percent interest rate over 15 years.
Funds will be used to make building improvements, including replacing the kitchen floor. The business will also put on an addition to expand kitchen capacity to include a prep area and a new dish room. The loan funding will help the business retain five jobs.
Cori D. Wagner was approved for a $75,000 EDA CARES Act relief loan at a 4-percent interest rate over 15 years to purchase the building her business, Mama Made Crafts, is currently housed in Coudersport. The loan would retain one full-time job.
Wapiti Woods Lodge LLC in Benezette was approved for a $200,000 loan through the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority at a 4-percent interest rate over 15 years. The funds would be used to construct a lodge area that would allow for eight guests. The loan would create five part-time jobs and one future part-time cleaning position.
The board also approved the resignation of Courtney Cole from the loan committee, for the purposes of retirement. The recommended replacement is Lynn Ruffner from Potter County.

North Central To Allow Electronic Signatures
KERSEY – Keeping up with emerging technology is permitting a slight change in business practices for the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission.
The board, at its monthly meeting and retreat held Wednesday at the Red Fern in Kersey, unanimously approved a resolution allowing electronic signatures for routine contracts.
Jim Chorney, who serves as executive director at North Central, said the move will allow the organization to process paperwork more quickly as the signatures will be gathered electronically.

PennDOT plans bridge replacement on Looker Mt. Trail in Otto Township, McKean County
Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced plans to begin a bridge replacement project on April 1, 2024, on Route 246 (Looker Mountain Trail) in Otto Township, McKean County. This will improve safety and ride quality for motorists by replacing the bridge spanning Baker Run, improving the overall condition rating from poor to good.
The bridge will be reduced to one lane during daylight hours beginning April 1. Flaggers will provide traffic control until April 16, when temporary traffic signals will become active and provide traffic control for the duration of the project. Work is estimated to be completed in November. All work and scheduling is weather dependent.
Additional work to the bridge deck and the approach will include paving, guiderail installation, application of pavement markings, and miscellaneous construction.
Francis J. Palo Inc. of Clarion, PA is the contractor on this $1.9 million project.
Motorists are advised to be alert for sudden stops and traffic delays, and asked to use caution in the area.

LEASA MALEY TO RECEIVE PRESIDENT’S AWARD FOR STAFF EXCELLENCE
BRADFORD, Pa. — Leasa Maley, assistant director of auxiliary services at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, will receive this year’s President’s Award for Staff Excellence.
Maley, who has worked at Pitt-Bradford for 37 years, will receive the award during the university’s Honors Convocation ceremony on Friday, April 12.
