A Native American Perspective on Thanksgiving: A New Way of Thinking

Join the Bradford Area Public Library for an informative and engaging presentation that will offer an alternative perspective on the history of Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 9 at 6PM. Using a quiz-style format, participants will learn about the only primary source document that chronicles the “First Thanksgiving” and gain insight into the English settlers at Plymouth and the Wampanoag, the Native people who inhabited the area.

The annual Veterans Dinner will be held November 11 at the VMI (Veterans Memorial, Inc.) located at 4743 Route #155 in Port Allegany.  Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m.  There is a sign-up sheet at the VMI or reservations can be made via telephone at 814-642-2547. 

Reservation deadline is Friday, November 10 at noon.  The dinner is open to all veterans and a guest and widows of veterans.  Guest speaker will be Alvin Loveless.    

            BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will present “The Wolves,” a Pulitzer Prize finalist about a young women’s soccer team, Nov. 9-12 in the Studio Theater in Blaisdell Hall.

            “I thought of the play like a war movie,” said playwright Sarah DeLappe. “Instead of a troop of young men preparing for battle, we watch a team of young women warming up for their soccer game. There’s a captain, a rebel, an innocent, a recent recruit, a common enemy.

Elk County- Rick Schatz, Belinda Dinsmore, Cacee Reuscher-Gardner, and Dan Vogt of Quala-Die presented a generous donation to support St. Marys Area United Way 2023 Campaign. Receiving the check on behalf of the United Way was Doug Gaffey, St. Marys Area United Way President, Jim Ryan, St. Marys Area United Way Vice-President; Jason Gabler, United Way Corporate Campaign Chair; and Doug Bauer, United Way Payroll Campaign Chair.

Quala-Die, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Penn United Company is located on Brusselles Street, St. Marys. Quala-Die specializes in the manufacturing of powder compaction tooling and precision machined components and consistently supports the Elk County area.

A week and a half ago, the Pennsylvania College of Technology men won their first United East Conference cross-country crown and the women placed sixth, with five men and two women earning all-conference accolades in the process. On Saturday, things step up a notch at the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Championships.

“The regional meet brings a next level of competition for our men and women. The Mid-Atlantic Region is a quality region with some of the top Division III teams in the country,” coach Tom Leeser said.  

The newly formed PAHS Gator Cheerleader Boosters will sponsor a Vendor Event on November 18 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Port Allegany United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall located at 307 North Main Street, Port Allegany.
