Stella Zaffino Wenzel, 88, of Warren, PA
Stella Zaffino Wenzel, 88, of Warren, PA, died Saturday August 5, 2023, in Absolut Care Nursing Home, Westfield, NY, after a brief illness.
She was born in Morrison, PA, on April 13, 1935, the daughter of the late Bruno J. and Carmella Valenti Zaffino. Stella had resided in Warren most of her life. She had been employed with the former Comet Markets for 15 years, working in the bakery and was manager of the Deli Dept. She was a salesclerk for Bon Ton Department Store for 10 years retiring from there in 1995. As a child she attended St. Joseph School and was a member of St. Joseph Church. Stella was involved in church banquets and luncheons. She had served as a eucharistic minister and recited the rosary with patients at Kinzua Healthcare. She was also a member of the Warren Senior Center. Stella was an avid cook and enjoyed baking and enjoyed home interior decorating.

On August 6 at 6:53 PM, Roulette, Coudersport and Port Allegany Fire were dispatched to 967 Sartwell Creek Rd. for a structure fire house with flames showing from the second floor. It is unknown if anyone is at home. Upgraded to a second alarm with possible entrapment. Fire Marshal and Coroner requested.

PRE-REGISTER FOR FREE FAMILY FISHING PROGRAM ON SUNDAY, AUG. 20 AT LYMAN RUN STATE PARK
Lyman Run State Park at 454 Lyman Run Road, Galeton, PA 16922 is offering a free family fishing program to participants of all ages and abilities from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 20. The park is 8.7 miles from Route 6 in Galeton via West Branch Road and Lyman Run Road in Potter County.
Pre-Registration is required and limited to 20 people.
Fishing licenses are not required for those attending and all materials, including rods; reels and bait will be provided.
The program will consist of one hour of fishing instruction for registrants in the Schott Pavilion located in the park’s day use area. Registrants and their DCNR instructors will then take a short walk to Lyman Lake to fish for two hours.
Species that anglers will have the opportunity to catch during the program are bluegill, crappie, perch, bass and trout.

Barbara E. Haskell, 80, of 622 Vermont Road, St. Marys, PA.
Barbara E. Haskell, 80, of 622 Vermont Road, St. Marys, peacefully passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Pinecrest Manor, following a lengthy illness, with her husband and children by her side.
She was born May 29, 1943, in Brookville, daughter of the late Mont and Laura Dykes Stahlman. Barb was born and raised in Brookville, where she graduated Brookville High School, Class of 1961. She continued her education and earned her Bachelor Degree in Special Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1965. She would later earn her Master’s Degree in Special Education from Gannon University. Barb was dedicated to her profession, teaching at a few institutions before she and her husband moved to their lifelong home in St. Marys in 1969.
Barbara met her husband, Dr. Charles R. Haskell, in the seventh grade. They were married in the Brookville Methodist Church on July 1, 1967 and were blessed to share 56 years of marriage and a friendship that spanned their entire lives.
In addition to her loving husband, Barbara is survived by her daughter, Laura Johnston and her husband Cliff of Scottsdale, Arizona; her son, Charles “CR” Haskell of Youngstown, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Hannah and Cliff Johnston.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by two sisters, Jayne Dickey and Sue Sietz; and one brother, Ronald Stahlman. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Barb was committed to her family, her faith, her profession, and her community. She was an active participant in every facet of her life. She was a Cub Scout den mother, a bible school teacher, a deacon elder for the Shiloh Presbyterian Church, an avid reader, and an enthusiastic artist. She designed and created several projects for the charity ball and murals at the church. She enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends and was competitive at Bridge and other card games. She had a sense for style and seemed to always have a smile for anyone in which she came in contact. There was nothing more important to Barb than her husband and her immediate family. She will be missed by all.
There will be no visitation.
Funeral services will be held in the Shiloh Presbyterian Church on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 10:30 AM with the Rev. Scott Wiest officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Doris M. Crum “beloved mother and grandmother”
SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa.—Doris M. Crum, 96, of Shinglehouse, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023, in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, after a long illness.
Born on Saturday, November 13, 1926 in Cameron Mills, NY, she was a daughter of Merle and Beulah Bessie Welch. On June 28, 1946 in Chrystal, she married Gilbert R. Crum, who passed away on April 28, 1998.
Doris attended country school in Cameron Mills. She was employed as a waitress for many years in the Olean, NY area.
Doris enjoyed baking, having entered many baked goods in the Potter County Fair, winning many ribbons throughout the years. She enjoyed being outdoors and also enjoyed working in her flower garden. She loved to go play Bingo with her daughter, loved playing games with her family, but most especially loved spending time with her family.
Left to cherish her memory are three sons, Douglas (Donna) Crum of Roulette, Merle (Linda) Crum of Port Allegany, and Thomas (Carol) Crum of Shinglehouse; a daughter, Rhonda Sheppard of Shinglehouse; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; and twenty-one great-great-grandchildren; two nieces; and a nephew.
In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was predeceased by a son, Wayne “Skip” Crum; a daughter, Onalee Thurst; a grandson, Clinton Sheppard; a son-in-law, Martin Thurst; a brother, James Welch; and a sister, Lucy Welch Edwards.
Family and friends may call from 9am to 11am on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, where funeral services will follow at 11am with the Rev. Russell J. Horning of Shinglehouse, officiating. Burial will be in Rathbone Cemetery, Coneville.

Keith W. Niver, 27, of Russell, PA, formerly of Boyce, VA
Keith W. Niver, 27, of Russell, PA, formerly of Boyce, VA, passed away on Saturday August 5, 2023, after an unexpected ATV accident.
He was born in Warren, PA to Keith W. Niver II and Delores Jean Steinman Niver and they survive. He was a graduate of Eisenhower High School, Class of 2014, he also learned his craft with the Warren Career Center, specializing in Auto Body Mechanics. Keith worked as a Corrections Officer in Martinsburg, WV, with Berryville Auto Parts as a state inspector, and most recently was a mechanic for Branch Enterprises.
Keith was and Old Soul who loved collecting lanterns and antiques, enjoyed shooting guns, camping, hunting, loved to trade and would always be looking for the next big trade. He also enjoyed cutting wood, spending time with his friends, and would help anyone with anything. Keith was the best dad to his two fur babies Kanga and Gracie. He was also a member of the Warren Moose Club and a former member of the Berryville Moose Lodge.
On September 24, 2022, Keith married the love of his life, Samantha R. Whitacre in Bluemont, VA, at the family home.
In addition to his parents, Keith is survived by his wife, Samantha Niver; two fur babies, Kanga and Gracie; sister, Kayla R. Niver of Russell, Pa; uncle, Stephen Niver and wife Cynthia of CA; father in law, Todd Whitacre and Jennifer Jordan of Huntly, VA; mother in law, Candace Zimmerman and husband Joe of Bluemont, VA; brother in laws, Zeke Zimmerman of Bluemont, VA, and Connor Trosch, of Pittsburgh; sister in laws, Zoe and Emy Zimmerman of Bluemont, VA; Dylan Morrision, of Chandlars Valley; and several cousins.
Keith was preceded in death by his aunt, Jean Niver.

Sizerville State Park Environmental Education Programs for the weekend of August 12th
Program Title: Tree Trek

Description: Come join the park educator for a hike to identify trees growing in Sizerville State Park. We will discuss what these trees are used for specifically and their importance to survival of all living things. Wear sturdy shoes since the trails are on uneven terrain and field guides will be provided.

EMPORIUM: Sizerville State Park’s swimming pool will be closed weekdays beginning Wednesday, August 23rd. The pool will be open normal hours, 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday, Aug 26-27, Sept 2-3 and Labor Day. The pool will then close for the season. As always, the pool is open weather permitting; if you are not sure, call the park office at 814.486.5605
