It is with great sadness and heartache to on behalf of myself and my husband Gib Lentz to share of his fathers Gilbert Lentz passing last night due to a home fire.
He was a good godly simple man with his own sense of humor— lol- definitely his own! He loved his family and his Sartwell Creek Union Church who were also family to him.
Keep his son and daughter Marcia Lentz Jaques and her husband Bo in your prayers during their time of absolute grief.
Gilbert SR. absolutely adored his youngest grandson Xander. He was proud, loved and appreciated his 3 adult grandchildren Caleb, Courtney and Zack. He also welcomed and accepted and loved his bonus step grand children Jessica, Matt MoweryMya May and little Eric.
He had a good life and was loved- what more could a man ask for? His life was complete. We weren’t ready to let go yet. But know and believe he will be watching over us.
(Edited to send a special sincere thank you to the responding fire departments- and please pray for the 2 firefighters that were injured- I pray they know that our family is greatly appreciative and wish them speedy recovery)
On Sunday, during our weekly bingo fundraiser, Departments 46, 48, and McKean 3 were dispatched to a structure fire in Pleasant Valley Township.
While responding, Tioga County relayed supplemental info of flames through the roof with possible entrapment. Chief 46-10 upgraded the box to a second alarm with this information.
Upon arrival, units found the second floor well involved with part of the roof structure already collapsed. Initial attack crews encountered what appeared to be a rare backdraft event upon forcing the front door open for entry. This backdraft event did result in one Fire Fighter sustaining second degree burns and being transported to UPMC Cole.
Attack crews made entry immediately following and made an aggressive attack on the flames quickly knocking the fire down and allowing the second crew to make entry and finding the victim on the second floor.
The victim was quickly removed from the structure and brought to awaiting ambulance crews outside, but unfortunately the individual was unable to be resuscitated and the coroner and PSP Fire Marshal were contacted to come to the scene.
A second Fire Fighter suffered a minor injury during operations and was transported to UPMC Cole for treatment and was released.
Crews worked on scene for several hours doing extensive overhaul and mop up operations. The coroner and two Fire Marshals arrived on the scene and all investigations were conducted.
The cause of the blaze is undetermined due to the amount of damage suffered to the structure, but no foul play was evident. Damages are estimated at $100,000.00.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family on their loss, as well as with both injured Fire Fighters on their recovery. We would like to thank our mutual aid departments for their assistance at the scene, as well as the public for the outpouring words of encouragement and concerns for the injured members.
Assisted by: McKean 3, 48, 39, 49, Potter County Coroner’s Office, PSP – Fire Marshals, as well as other stand by units.

Pennsylvania’s Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP) is available on some state game lands for the first time in the 2023-24 hunting seasons.
Through DMAP, hunters can get permits that allow them to harvest antlerless deer – one per tag – on the specific property for which the permit was issued.
DMAP permits for the 2023-24 deer seasons go on sale at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14.
DMAP has been around for years, but previously was offered only on other public lands and private lands to help landowners achieve land use goals and/or to limit the spread of chronic wasting disease. But it’s needed on some state game lands now as well, said Game Commission Forestry Division Chief Paul Weiss.
