William Edward Douglass, 90, of 81 Main Street, Bradford, PA passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at his residence.
Born December 15, 1933, in Sunderland, England, he was a son of the late William E. and Doris (Bell) Douglass.
William was a graduate of Castletown School, and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington where he earned a degree in Human Resource Management.
He was a coal miner, at the Hylton (Castletown) Colliery in England, and later was employed by Corning Glass in England until 1966, then transfered to Wilimgton, NC, he moved to Bradford in 1971, and worked as the Human Resource Manager for Corning Glass, then Pascagoula, MS, until 1983. He went to work for Southwest Airlines as a Safety Engineer, and he retired again. In his retirement he worked for 10 years at the Las Colinas Country Club in Irving, TX until 2013. Then he returned to Bradford.
William was an avid golfer. He was a life member of the Las Colinas Country Club, where helped run the golf tournaments for the LPGA. He was a Third Degree Knight, and member of the Knights of Columbus Council 403, and the Pennhills Club.
Surviving is one daughter, Christine (Greg Ulyan) Hannon, of Bradford, his former wife, Branda Douglass Thorne, four grandchildren, Melissa Hannon, Kylie (Seth) McCleary, Robert (Alice) Hannon, William “Joey” (Bethany) Hannon, three great-grandchildren, Jessica Hannon, Abby (Aaron) Stives, Griffin McClearly, two great-great-grandchildren, Adalynn Stives, Grayson Lundy, two sisters, Pauline Douglass, and Margaret (Jimmy) Kerr, both of Castletown, UK, two brothers, Brian (Emily) Douglass, David (Doreen) Douglass, both of Washington, UK, many nieces and nephews and many true friends in the US and UK.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son-in-law, Joseph G. Hannon, one great-grandson, Robert Douglass Hannon, one sister, Hilda Graham, one brother-in-law, Gordon Graham, one niece, Karen Turnball.
Family will receive friends on Saturday February 10, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, in St. Bernard Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, with Rev. John Jacquel, as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.
