Walter J. Farrell, 77, of Tyrone, formerly of Bradford, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at the Hollidaysburg Veteran’s Home, Duncansville; after a courageous battle with cancer due to his exposure to agent orange in Vietnam.
He was born on June 21, 1947 in Bradford, the son of the late Walter and Mary “Romaine” Hotelling Farrell.
He was a 1965 graduate of the Bradford Area High School.
On May 10, 1969 in the First United Methodist Church, Bradford, he married Connie E. Wilson, who survives.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War; where he earned the Purple Heart for wounds received during combat.
He was a life member of the Lt. John C. Roche Post 212 VFW, Bradford, and a member of the Moose Lodge 223, Huntingdon. He was a NASCAR fan who loved hunting, gardening or just being outdoors. When he and Connie owned a motor-home they enjoyed spending time camping. In his younger years he worked on the family’s dairy farm.
He was employed by the former Trico Industries, Bradford, for twenty six years, prior to working at the former JPT, Jamestown, NY, for seven years and finally retiring in 2012 after five years of working as a custodian for the Bradford Area School District.
In addition to his wife of fifty five years, Connie Farrell of Tyrone, he is also survived by two daughters, Stephanie Farrell of Homer City and Melissa (James) Schneider of Huntingdon; one special chosen daughter, Vicky (Mike) Campogiani of Bradford; two sisters, Carol Henke of Bradford and Janice (Charlie) Kaefer of Bradford; six grandchildren, Patrick Sheridan of Dunkirk, NY, Sophie Sheridan of Homer City, Jacob Schneider of Huntingdon, Jonathon Schneider of Huntingdon, Adriana Campogiani of Bradford and Mikey Campogiani of Bradford and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Joshua Schneider and one sister, Marilyn Smith.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at the Mascho Funeral Home, Inc. from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM with funeral services to follow on Monday at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Klouw, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Military funeral honors and burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.
