Vernetta P. Nichols, 73, of St. Marys, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, with her loving family by her side.
Born on July 25, 1950, in Salamanca, NY, Vernetta was the daughter of the late Gordon and Loretta Smith Lathrop.
Known for her green thumb, Vernetta had an innate ability to make anything grow. Her passion for gardening was evident in the beautiful flowers and plants that adorned her home. When she wasn’t tending to her flowers and plants, Vernetta could often be found cheering on her favorite NASCAR drivers or watching sports with loved ones. Her enthusiasm for these pastimes was infectious and brought joy to those around her.
Vernetta was a talented and creative individual, expressing her artistic side through the art of crocheting. She crafted beautiful and intricate pieces, leaving behind cherished heirlooms for her family to treasure. But beyond her hobbies and interests, Vernetta will always be remembered for her kindness and compassion. She had a heart of gold, always quick with a kind word or a helping hand for those in need. Her genuine care and love were evident in every interaction, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Vernetta is survived by her three loving daughters; Terri Nichols of St. Marys, Bree Nichols of St. Marys, and Charlene Causer of Olean, and by two granddaughters; Charlotte and Cheyenne Causer. Their bond was unbreakable, and Vernetta’s legacy will live on through them and the cherished memories they shared together.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a special uncle, Vern.
In honor of Vernetta’s life, private services were held with the family at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home.
