UPMC Support Staff Honored With New Award+
Williamsport, Pa., April 9, 2024 – UPMC in North Central Pa. is buzzing with good news as five employees earned the inaugural BEE Award for the first quarter of 2024.
The BEE Award, meaning Be Extraordinary Every Day, recognizes the care team that supports nursing staff and works closely with them to provide patients with the compassion and care they need.
Brittany Colley, CNA, Muncy Place; Carol Beemen, CNA, The Green Home; Jessica Beckman, CNA, The Green Home; Tanya Weatherby, Environmental Services, The Green Home; and Jean Beardslee, CNA, Haven Place, were each honored with the new award that recognizes support staff.
Brittany was nominated by a resident who shared:
“I spent two weeks at Muncy Place for therapy. Brittany is absolutely priceless. Brittany saw I got my morning coffee long before breakfast because she knows I’m a coffee drinker, and I really appreciated that. She went above and beyond taking care of me every day and making my stay at Muncy Place the best that it could be. When it was time for me to leave, she even packed all of my things for me. She made me feel at home and deserves a gold star.”
Carol was nominated by a resident who shared:
“Carol is a very kind caregiver. She is extraordinary and even comes in early to help the CNA’s. She comes in on her days off and even stays late to help the girls. She is a very caring CNA and a very good friend. She cares about all the residents and staff.”
Jessica was nominated by a co-worker who shared:
“Jess runs around at a fast pace all day. Her rooms are neat, and residents are well groomed and looking good. She helps others and is a team player. Her residents miss her on her days off and say how much they like her. She works extra shifts and comes into work in a good mood and gets ‘right to it’. Jess doesn’t call off and is always willing to do extra tasks if needed. She is an asset to our team and is an example of the kind of team players we need.”
Tanya was nominated by a co-worker who shared:
“Tanya does a very good job making sure the facility is kept clean. She also helps the residents by getting them drinks or going in and helping them with anything.”
Jean was nominated by a resident’s daughter who shared:
“Jean goes above and beyond. She has been with my mom since Day 1 and she has truly made her feel at home at Haven Place. She has been an important part of her recovery and truly makes mom feel special. It is nice that Jean is assigned to her hall because she has been a constant familiar face. Jean has shown interest in my mom’s knitting, crocheting, and quilting projects. By her caring and thoughtful way, Jean kept my mom’s spirits high and that is such an important part of recovery. Jean is always prompt on answering call bells, and if she has to take care of someone else first, she always stops to let her know she will be with her next. It is hard when there are days with staff shortages, but Jean always makes it work. It is evident she truly cares about her residents. In addition, she lets my mom know when she will be off, that way she wouldn’t wonder where she was. That is so kind and thoughtful. Mom’s stay at Haven Place has been a wonderful experience and Jean has been a huge part in making this a positive experience.”
