UPMC Sports Medicine Hosts Annual Student Athlete Perseverance Awards (SAPA) and Champions Cup Ceremony
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa., June 19, 2024 – This year marks the fifth annual Student Athlete Perseverance Awards (SAPA) and Champions Cup reception hosted by UPMC in North Central Pa. athletic trainers.
“The awards ceremony is a way to bring our athletes together and celebrate their success in overcoming injuries throughout the school year,” said Michael Ludwikowski, manager, Outreach Athletic Training, UPMC in North Central Pa. “These feats do not happen with medical care alone – it involves each students’ community. The students not only met their sports medicine expectations, but surpassed them with their hard work and positive attitudes in order to earn such great outcomes.”
This year’s SAPA recipients demonstrated an exceptional commitment to recoveries that allowed them to participate in their sport throughout the school year. Certified athletic trainers recognized and awarded the following athletes:
- Austin Mosher, Bucktail Area High School
- Micheal Davis, Canton High School
- Haleigh Peters, Central Mountain High School
- Zoe Furman, Montgomery Area High School
- Dylan Keyte, Montoursville Area High School
- Noah Confer, Muncy High School

- Angelo Birch, St. John Neumann Regional Academy
- Garrett Cooley, South Williamsport Jr./Sr. High School
- Enrico Capriotti, Sullivan County High School

The Champions Cup is a fun award that is set up with a fantasy sports format. All UPMC contracted schools elect both boys’ and girls’ interscholastic teams who they think will have successful athletics seasons for the upcoming year. The schools that accumulate the most points throughout the year are awarded a traveling trophy cup they can display for the upcoming school year. This year’s Champions Cup recipients include:
- Large Division – Central Mountain High School
- Small Division – South Williamsport Jr./Sr. High School
